I've been thinking about this painting all week and intended to watch it today.
"...I'm not here in the same way that you knew me before." I feel like that's the message I've been getting, too. Things have changed between us, but maybe not in the way I think.
Whenever I've read that line, even as I've seen this title throughout the week, I've seen it as rejecting. But he does stand protectively and looks at her with empathy. That's not at all what he meant then and again isn't now.
I loved the commentary on Jesus' and Mary's composition. She is bound to the earth (for now) and he is not. Titian conveyed that beautifully in their respective poses.
This painting has me reflecting on my relationship with him, just in time for another round of church. It definitely achieves its purpose of bringing this moment to life - even today.

This Is Very Emotional For That Scene Of Titan's Noli Me Tangere

A few flaws in the presentation. Christ is truly risen in the flesh, so words like 'immateriality' and 'almost ghostly' are misplaced.
And since the Gospels tell us this encounter took place early in the morning, it cannot be a sunset Titian is depicting.
