As a “living fossil”, the ginkgo tree has been a Chinese favorite for thousands of years. Inside the ancient Guanyin Buddhist Temple in Xi’an stands a ginkgo tree over a thousand years old. It became an online interest sensation in recent years. With so many people flocking to visit the tree, the temple had to set a daily limit of 3,000 visitors, who have to pre-book a slot online. Today this tree is on the list of National Key Protected Wild Plants.
