Have you ever wondered why Washington, D.C., the capital of the USA, isn’t in any state? 🇺🇸 🤔 While it might look like it’s part of Maryland or Virginia, it’s actually in the District of Columbia - a special federal zone unlike any other! 📜 Let’s go back to 1790, it was decided to create a brand-new capital named after George Washington. 🏛️ To make this happen, land was given by Maryland and Virginia. But instead of attaching it to a state, they formed an independent territory to ensure neutrality and prevent any state from holding too much power. ⚖️ The result? A city where only Congress has full authority over its laws! 💼 Today, the District of Columbia stands as a unique and iconic part of American history - a city that’s neither a state nor part of one! ✨ Fun Fact: Did you know that D.C.’s original borders included parts of both Maryland and Virginia? 🗺️ #washington #washingtondc #virginia #maryland #uscapital #districtcolumbia #ushistory #americanhistory #congress #federalzone #us #learn #usa #unitedstates #states #map #maps #geography #history #viralfact #fyp #interestingplace #geoshorts #historyshorts #shorts #uniquegeography #learning #viral #viralmap #maplovers #geographyeducation #geographygeeks

Most people don’t question it because we took history classes. But I was born in ‘66 so history classes probably don’t talk about it today. Probably going over trans and gay history. And they most likely have no clue that D.C. even exists.
