Oilman Paul Sturges (Josh Lucas) takes his family out to a Mexican coastal town to visit his pride and joy. An oil rig.

But when they arrive the once vibrant town is a shadow of its former self. Word of the town is that the drilling has awakened something, a legend, a myth, a megalodon: The Black Demon!

As a non-believer Paul takes his family to investigate the rig only to discover he has provided this giant shark with another meal to terrorise and devour.

The father did not bring the family to the oil rig as a vacation.
The father was on vacation and needed to go to the oil rig.
However the family was harassed while waiting for the father so the mother paid a sailor to bring them to the oil rig to reunite with the father

I don’t care how ridiculous the premise may be, I’m just glad we’re getting a seemingly thrilling creature feature. One that isn’t trying to preach the message, lecture us, or teach us how to do better. Just pure entertainment and escapism.

You can pretend that this is an indirect sequel to The Forever Purge. Josh Lucas's character from The Forever Purge made it to Mexico, decided to stay and raise a family, only having to deal with a literal monster. At least his character rid himself from his racism.

If I'm not mistaken, I think this movie is based on the supposed story of the giant black shark that was seen off the coast of Baja California. That they nicknamed him "The Black Demon".
Because of the size of the shark shown in this trailer.
It is certainly a megalodon but black.
