This video and mainly comment section helped me a lot with deciding which strings I'll buy for my acoustic guitar. This time I'm choosing elixir.

I’ve been using d’addario for years, and my god how my world’s changed since hearing the bright tones of elixir

Wow! Huge difference. It depends on the use of course. You don't want the guitar to sound too crisp sometimes. I just installed the Elixir Nanoweb HD Light on really high end acoustic ebony Larrivee my dad produced and it sounds amazing.

Xt's have more character and are warmer in my opinion.. Elixirs are brighter especially when they are new..It can make a recording sound pretty harsh on some guitars..
My advice would be to use Elixirs fro finger picking and xt's for strumming.

Over headphones it sounded like you played each set in separate rooms. It was that dramatic. Next to the Elixirs, the XTs sounded like they were being played on a Christmas-edition Sears Roebuck guitar that someone found buried under a stack of rusting Yuban coffee cans in the crawl space beneath their uncle's one-car garage outside Yuma, Arizona. (I have a very discriminating ear ;-)) I've used Elixirs for 12 years and am actively looking to replace them on one of my Taylor guitars. I'm still looking for an alternative to Elixirs, but after watching this comparison I can scratch D'Addario XTs off my list. That the XTs are quite popular proves that there is simply no accounting for differences in sonic palates! Thanks, again, for the comparison!

I prefer choose elixir than D'addario from the video. It has rich sound on lower and mid. More easy listening

Thank you your sound test. I feel D'addario XT sound is natural better then Elixir Phosphor Bronze!

I have been using Elixer Ultra Lights for years. I dropped by the guitar store yesterday and saw these Daddarios I've never seen before and got them thinking what the heck, why not. Haven't put them on yet but in your video I can say Elixer is the clear winner. The Daddarios dont sound bad at all, but I like the highs you get out of Elixers. Nice video though man!

Great one. You got a new fan. Waiting for this. But I was mainly concerned about the sound than longevity. Seems like mic placement while recording both strings were different in the video, so can't really judge. What do you say, which one do you prefer? Any brighter, warmer or balanced?

I’m really surprised at the tone difference, I thought they be close to the same. Cool vid

The Daddario XT’s sound good for about 2 weeks but by week 4 they’re already dull and seem to wear out quicker than the regular phosphor bronze Daddario’s do. Elixirs last me 4 months easily

Alright I immediately noticed the added highs of the XTs, in contrast to Elixir's they sound like non coated strings, I'm going to give them a try. That said, the muted highs of the Elixirs I think actually sound better on that guitar with a pick - which is not uncommon.

I bought my first acoustic guitar 6 months ago and it came with D'Addario strings, had no issues. Popped my first one about 2 months in. I replaced them with Elixir PB Nanowebs and on my first strum, I was blown away by the difference and the crazy brightness, sounded really different, but I quickly came to dislike the SUPER metallic noise that came along with it. I really love the sound when finger picking but when strumming with a pick there is just so much extra metallic noise that doesn't sound good to me.. maybe they just don't work well on my guitar (Ibanez AW54 Dreadnaught) but I'll be switching back to D'Addario after these wear out. They definitely seem to be lasting longer but I rather change strings more often to get rid of the metallic sound.

Is it just me, or it feels like the mic was closer to the guitar when trying the elixirs? I’ve been an elixir user for years, but for stock reasons in my country, I had to get a set of XTs today. I’ll compare and let y’all know. Cheers!

I just purchased a Taylor 812ce 12-Fret which came with the Elixir strings. The brightness was a bit much for what I am "use to" and I am struggling with the heavier metallic (almost harpsichord sound) of the mids D & G strings. I will leave them on since the guitar is new and everything needs to settle in. But I will say, my Taylor Academy 12e and Taylor GS-Mini have D'Addario's and "my" ears prefer that softness for fingerstyle. For those questioning which is better, go with what your ears like and give the strings time to break in.

My AJ45 gets XTs, my 714 gets Elixir's both are my favorite. They are both long lasting depending on how you play and how much. A quick wipe with pledge multi surface every once and a while seems to make them last many months for me.
