Pantera - Cemetery Gates (acoustic cover)

A heavy metal classic done on the ol' acoustic geetar. RIP Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott. Still remember the day I heard the news about Dime's passing, a heavy blow for sure as I was just discovering Pantera's music around that time. It's still some of my favourite heavy music ever.

"Cemetery Gates" was written by Pantera and released in 1990 on their debut album Cowboys From Hell.

*** I’m very much aware that many guitar parts and compositional elements of this arrangement are quite different from the original. I’m working from memory and my own internal relationship with the song which results in obvious differences sometimes. I improvise, change notes, section lengths, vocal parts, even lyrics sometimes and I'm not afraid to do that. I’m not learning these parts from tabs or trying to make it exact to the original, I’m interpreting and adapting the arrangement for my own purposes to create something new or to suit my performance. It’s okay if you don’t prefer it. Stating it’s wrong is such a strange concept to me though because music is never wrong. When we think music is wrong we become closed minded which is creatively regressive and ultimately unhelpful. Something to consider. Thanks for watching, liking (or disliking) and commenting!

The difficulty to pull this off both musically and vocally is unprecedented. This guy deserves a Grammy for this IMHO.

Who else here is thankful that YouTube recommended to them this gem of a cover?!!

One take, one camera, no cuts, no edits: the true mark of talent. 👍 A worthy tribute to the legendary song, and a job well done.

I'm 17, my car is packed full of friends and we're riding back roads, smoking a joint, cheap beer.... this album just dropped and I bought it, we were blown away by cowboys from hell!!. Nostalgia

In my 32 years of life and 22-23 of those being a devoted and passionate music lover and and musician myself.... I never thought in my life I would ever hear a completely acoustic version of any Pantera song... let alone Cemetery Gates. This is one hell of an amazing performance Corey! 👏 much love and respect man! This has to be honestly one of your best performances in my opinion. Your vocals are so haunting and dark over top of those killer dimebag guitar riffs... it is truly phenomenal and something otherworldly 🖤🤟😎🤘🖤

Are you kidding me?!?!?! I clicked this just for a general idea of how to play this song on acoustic guitar but I nearly dropped my phone. You did this song justice!

Holy 💩 dude. I clicked this because I’ve never seen an all acoustic version of this song done before. But I did NOT expect this level of crispyness. This was incredible my man.

Damn son, it takes massive balls to attempt a Pantera Cover at all let alone an acoustic one for two obvious reasons. 1. Phil has one of the most epic metal voices, timber and range and 2. Dimebag, i mean he's buried with a guitar Gods own priceless guitar ffs. This is AMAZING, seriously amazing and needs to be shown to the world. You have a new fan and subscriber for life.

Can’t believe you made such a heavy song sound so good on just an acoustic guitar, even got Dimebag Darrel’s solo. Impressive!

Corey Heuvei is not just a musician who's cracked the key to the gates, he's also a gigachad who shared the TABS!! Thank you brother and awesome cover!!

It’s rare to find an acoustic cover of a metal song that’s 10/10 on the instrument and 10/10 on the vocal performance. I can’t criticize anything about it. It’s unique yet stays true to the original and hits the important parts with perfection. 🎉bravo dude!🎉 1:51

This is incredible. I think this is the best acoustic cover of anything I have ever seen . This is brutally difficult to pull off.

I’m a year late on this one, but in all honesty this is one of the most perfect acoustic covers of any song I’ve heard. True to the original, yet enough changes to make the arrangement fit the instrument. Vocals are excellent and carry the emotion of Phil, yet blend into an acoustic version perfectly. Truly, that was perfect

Ok my jaw is still on the floor. That was over the top. Total talent and dedication. Every bit of this song acoustically was well played and the singing was amazing I hope every Pantera fan out there shares this in memory of Dime and Vinnie ❤

I am not the biggest Pantera fan but Corey's acoustic version makes it clear how great this song is. Great job!

Many metal songs are devastatingly sad but compensate it successfully with the aggressivity. Here you made a brave move and tuned the aggression part of it down, so that it became a hauntingly beautiful melancholic piece. Great job!
