WOW! I didn't realize there were that many DAWs so thank you for showing me some new ones. I am still undecided in which one I want so I will definitely take a look at some of these that are new to me.

Studio one is the one for me. It covers everything and more.

Black Magic is an Australian company. They are based in Melbourne/Australia, but also have software and hardware developers in Singapore, Sydney/Australia, Toronto/Canada and other locations around the world. Black Magic have acquired Fairlight about 5 years ago, so they have quite a pedigree when it comes to DAW.

Studio One is actually developed in Germany.

You didn't include Soundbridge which like the Tracktion Waveform, it has a free Version, with no limitations, allowing 3rd party pluggins, and VST'S.

SpectraLayers is not a daw it's an audio file REPAIR and editing tool. Not every tool that lets you edit audio is a daw. You can use SpectraLayers right inside Cubase (fully integrated) or launch it standalone. If you wanted to call SpectraLayers a DAW then you should call Isotope RX also a daw as it is both standalone and a plugin spectral processing and audio REPAIR tool. WaveLab also is not really a daw, it's a mastering standalone software suite for people who do not want to master in a Daw.

Nuendo/Cubase is a weird thing because Nuendo does everything Cubase does plus surround audio. Nuendo is pitched at the film post production work, whereas Cubase is pitched and home studio and commercial recording studio applications. 99% of the time, Cubase and Nuendo are the same daw, and in fact, they are built from a single codebase. Steinberg markets them separately but they are really just different editions of cubase. The surround sound editing feature alone really is about all that differentiates them. I do think Steinberg should bundle wavelab with Cubase Pro, in order to increase the feature set that Cubase gives for the price.

What about Mulab? That's the most innovative DAW out there!

Used Cakewalk since it was a DOS product, then also FL Studio, Reason and Waveform. Now a Cubase user after seeing what version 11 offers.

I've recommended Waveform for beginners for a long time, since you can start free, the targeted "single pane" interface makes it fast to learn for noobs and the signal flow from L to R is way eaiser for noobs. Admiral Bumblebee has always given it high marks for an efficient workflow.

But Cubase 11 Elements is a GAME CHANGER for new entrants starting with a DAW. And the Elements version can take you VERY VERY far, since they included most of the major tools to help new songwriters. Since the majority of new users also don't have strong theory knowledge, Cubase is the BEST tool out there to get you going with the combination of tools that work together to elevate your potential. I highly recommend watching all the videos you can on Scale Assistant, Chord Track, and Chord Pads to see how these work together to do crazy advanced things such as:

1. Make chord progressions "1 finger playable" with Chord Pads, AND it will use the most appropriate inversion and CHANGE THE INVERSION EACH TIME YOU PLAY THAT PAD to best match the chord you are coming from (you'd need to buy Scaler to outdo it here). The built in Circle of Fifths makes it easy to assign chords and if you end up with the Pro that "proximity" layout for chords is very powerful.
2. Make ANY random rhythmic MIDI track of Chords OR Melody INSTANTLY CONFORM to your chord track! Literally download any MIDI track, of say a classical work, create a chord progression and slave that MIDI track to the chord track, and the MELODY WILL BE INSTANTLY CONFORMED TO FIT THOSE CHORDS! Same thing for any random rhythmic feel of playing chords that you can grab (or create by just banging on 3-4 random keys rhythmically) and it will USE THAT RHYTHM to play the chords in the chord track. Oh, and that ability to grab (or create) a random MIDI rhythmic file to play a chord or even an arpeggio from the chord can ALSO be assigned to any chord in the chord pad tool via simple drag-n-drop, so that, for example, the Fm7 chord pad plays some rhythmic figure of Fm7, but the Am7 chord pad plays the chord as a custom arpeggio as just a quick example.
3. Scale Assistant will let you go so far as to bang on random keys, and it will constrain all the MIDI input either during or after to fit ONLY the scale that you tell it to so you could create a melody in any key and mode without even knowing the notes involved. Want to change the scale or some chords? Click one button and the melody conforms to those changes.

Other DAWs have 1 or more of these features, but after seeing most all that's out there, didn't see any that has them all, and it's amazing the main ones you need are in Elements.

Note that these tools don't fully replace learning theory, but they can empower a person who has a good ear for what they like after hearing it, which is how I started out so I know of what I speak.

You can hardly do worse than starting out on the DAW that Hans Zimmer uses... And Dom Sigalas is a BEAST at teaching you and giving examples (just check a few comments on any of his videos), as well as who else has a weekly livestream where you can ask even a stupid question and not get laughed at other than Cubase for their product...

I'm completely sold on Cubase... and for anyone using a competing pro level DAW, Sweetwater has the Crossgrade to Cubase Pro on special for $199 until July 31, 2021. You'll never see a better deal than that.

If money is short go with Waveform for FREE to get into the game, but if you can spend $99, Cubase Elements is the way to start out today.

Then just start watching the deals flow by on AudioPlugin.Deals, PluginBoutique.com and VSTBuzz.com and you can flesh out a powerful setup over time.
