So why is the Apollo Twin so expensive?
Universal Audio makes the best sounding plugin emulations of analogue gear in the world and with the Apollo Twin, you get the sound of analogue gear for a fraction of the price.
In addition, the Apollo can run all of it's plugins within itself, in real time, with no latency and without putting any strain on your computer!

Some reasons for price of an Apollo:
1. Great sounding preamps
2. $2000+ worth of included plugins
3. DSP Processing (not relying on your computer’s processor)
4. Zero Latency monitoring and recording
5. Auto Gain feature (X Gen 2)
6. Monitor Calibration (X Gen 2)

Kids - don’t buy an interface to get free plugins. It’s a marketing scam. Get a device with real converters.

people can say what they want in these comments. I've had an Apollo twin for 5 years and an x6 for 1. The reality is you have consistent, portable sound, with more plugin options than the competitors, and a higher likelihood of other studios having the same plugins. I use my twin for live, I don't trust a venue's sound guy with picking my auto tune key but I do with line out leveling... pretty sick device.

The 500$ price difference for a $20 chip upgrade. They use an analog device sharc processor for dsp.

UAD's plugins do not sound nearly identical to the hardware counterparts. Doesn't mean they don't sound good, but there's a noticeable difference between the hardware and the plugins.

That's like saying a space shuttle game is expensive because space travel is expensive.😂😂😂😂

I have the UAD Apollo Twin X And the RME Babyface PRO FS. I use both. Both are insanely amazing although I love the DSP on the Apollo Twin. Can't go wrong with either. The UAD I can color preamps and sound while the Babyface has a very clean uncolored tone to it. Great video!

Its not just the sound though…ITS THE IMPENDANCE MATCHING AND THE PREAMP BEING ABLE TO CHANGE THE ANALOG SONICS OF THE MIC BEFORE ITS CONVERTED TO DIGITAL AMD LOOSES QUALITY

The near zero latency times sold it for me. The stuff I record on UA gear has a groove I can't get with software-based interfaces, because those introduce tiny delays in the mix that add up and kill that kind of nuance. Plus UA hardware just plain sounds good and is built extremely well.

ive had mine almost 10 years, works as well as the day i bought it

Its literally only priced that high because they can.
The vintage preamps and compressors are expensive because of their rarity and prestige. Not necessarily the price they would cost to manufacture today. They've created a market and provided the interface, it would be like if adobe charged $2300 for a computer that works better with photoshop and has perfect colour accuracy.

The Apollo Twin is a great sound card, the best compromise between hardware and software. The sound card itself sound fantastic, it keeps the sound field very consistent along all the spectrum, you can track as you would do in a studio with unison, the plugins sound amazing and I would never go back, the next upgrade could only be a real console and real hardware instead of plugins.

Never had more headaches recording than with one of these

The ability to use the UAD Sphere mic and track in real time with any legendary microphone in the world is also a seller for me. You get the unison preamps for realtime monitoring, that’s something only hardware can provide.

I have the old Apollo Twin USB. Bought it for the guitar amps and as general interface/sound card to use on Windows.
It's a VERY nice device, but expensive.
I would say you can get more for your money and you can get UAD plugins as native version today, so no need for this device just to run plugins. Also, on Twin (2xDSP processor), you will run out of power after a couple loaded plugins anyway.
All that said - it's a very nice device for guitarists, since you can load your amps and fx on the device console and can bypass DAWs if you want to just play some guitar.
If you can afford it, consider if you need it, if you do, it's a nice device to have and play around with.

let me answer the question abit better. with UA you get 2/4 cores of DSP (amount of their plugins you can run at once),
amazing pre-amps for your mics + great emulation plugins - possibly in the top 3 plugin options, 0 latency recording, and pretty solid build quality.

Metric halo is the uncontested champion in a/d converters and preamps
U can chain as many units together as you want and they come with lots of free plugins, have great responsive support and are about the same price
