Melissa Carcamo defines present-day machismo, or masculinity, and reflects on its societal impacts on men through her research and personal experiences as a Hispanic person. By identifying what attributes “create a man” she is able to break down how masculinity hurts people, but most importantly how it robs men of living a loving and fulfilling life. Only by creating a new idea of masculinity can we all move toward living our best life.

This was amazing! My favorite line “my feminism is pro man.” That perspective is incredible and really helps convey the message that gender equality is not only about women being able to have a place alongside men. Men also have a place in the world alongside women. Especially when it comes to the emotional and mental box that they are placed in. I like this Ted talk. I feel like the framework that is used to analyze the faults of the muy macho persona is intellectually stimulating. We have to explore the past to understand the present and I also believe that feminism, the true equality of the sexes, benefits us all.

The school system tries to teach boys to behave like little girls. Sitting still and being quiet is little girl behavior. Boys and girls should be educated separately until at least 9th grade.
