World's Largest Hydrogen Powered Plane Completes Maiden Flight - Universal Hydrogen

Universal Hydrogen has completed the first flight of a 40 seat regional aeroplane powered by hydrogen fuel cell power. The ATR 72 regional aircraft was converted to run on hydrogen.

One of the aircraft’s turbine engines was replaced with a megawatt class fuel cell electric powertrain from Universal Hydrogen using technology from Plug Power and MagniX. The other conventional engine was not replaced for the safety of the flight.

if they could actually get it to work. plane ticket cost would drop like a brick. hydrogen is fairly cheap to produce its the tanks thats gunna be the big ass problem.

I wonder about the weight-to-power-ratio of the powertrain compared to the turboprop-engine.
But it seems to be sufficient, at least for such a rather slow plane.

This small airplane are so powerful u can't imagine.i flew two times in one of them in europ uff so strong when taking of, stronger than tge 777. But for better they should be biger maybe same size of large .so it will be more confortable and a bit heavyer so turbulencia will not afect them so much .couse it is ti light comparing with the mass of air and the engine power.

Fuel cell is way less efficient that burning hydrogen in a turbine or piston engine. Hydrogen can be made on board using electrical energy to split the h2o & run it directly in your engine. All you need is a high powered alternator & plexiglass tank with steel plates in it attached to electrical current, the oxygen can be used to breathe at high altitudes & the hydrogen can be burned in the turbine or piston engine aka internal combustion engine ICE.

Half of the plane is for hidrogen containers imagine a bigger plane not to mentioning the range its simply a climate show of stunt not pratically and economicaly viable!

Why not do natural gas, would still be a huge saving of carbon.
