What everyone gets wrong about slow running

This video is a little running documentary about the origins of running, endurance and human evolution. I started my running journey 5 years ago, after a rough period in my life. It immediately had incredibly positive effects on my life, and since then, my trail runs have become somewhat of a spiritual experience.
It profoundly changed my life which is why I made this video. After doing some research and reading some beautiful books about the sport, human anatomy and evolution, I found compelling arguments supporting the fact that humans have evolved to be amazing ultra endurance athletes. Many things that make us human also make us exceptional runners.

Is there a link between my self discovery through running and human history?

I don't know, but one thing is for sure: Running slowly and in a natural environment can be a profoundly human experience. There is something about those repetitive ones and twoes, feeling your heart beat, and sweating alone in the wild somewhere. I love it, and it has brought a plethora of benefits and positive habits into my life. So maybe you should try it as well.

Thanks for tuning in, have a good one,
peace ✌️

Are humans born to run? What do you think?

I started running nearly 50 years ago as an anxious depressive. I came off the prescription drugs and running has been my medication ever since. It probably saved my life.I can't live without it.

I started running, kind of automatically, to battle depression. Today I am on a 800+ Day streak!

Deleted strava as soon as I started training for my ultramarathon. It was taking the joy out of my journey. My spiritual awakening is not for all to see and judge and have opinions on. Running has been my saviour. I'm not a natural long distance runner, but the joy I feel when I do the anaerobic training day! Sprinting as fast as I can, I feel like a child, bounding across the grass! I was always very fast, so it just makes me feel 100% in tune with my natural ability! I smiling from ear to ear during my 100meter sprints!

I am old, bad shape from playing computer games for last 40ish years, no energy, brain fog, ed, fatigue, etc. I have just started trying to do pull ups, just got up to mid squats, toe bouncing, and testing running without being able to walk 1/2 mile without being tuckered out. This reminds me of my youth where I ran 6 - 6.5 minute miles every other day and makes me remember how good it felt and has totaled motivated me again. I have lightly jogged a few times if yoiu call a very slow 40 meters jogging, lol. Thanks, Subbed (6, 41?), liked, and black belled.

Keep going. I'm almost 60y old and running since I'm 15y.
And I don't even wear a watch, just listen to your body.

I like most of your points except this: 2:29 yes, a single human might be weak but humans are not meant to be alone. They are social beings living in groups. As social beings they are extremely powerful - especially with when they wield weapons.

Nice video. My wife and I started trail running this year in our early fifties. We have found an amazing group of people to run with. I think we will continue to do it for as long as we are able to.

Started running at 38. Now, over a decade later at 51, I feel better each day. In far better health than the first 38 years of my life.

3:05 I think this could have been phrased better.
Running as a sport existed anciently in Greece. In 776 BCE, the first Olympic Games in Olympia, Greece included a foot race. I would say that more accurately running didn't get popular to the general public until the 1960s. Professional athletes had been competing in running events for decades. You just didn't see people running for fun casually on the streets until the 1960s. If you saw someone running, say in the 1920s, you might assume they were training to be in the olympics

What an amazing video to watch right after I finished my second 65 km ultramarathon to celebrate my 65th birthday! I completely agree with your thoughts. Congratulations on your creativity and thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. I am sharing your video with my runner friends. Sueli Felizardo, from Brazil.

What a great video to stumble onto. I started running only 5-months ago, and I've never regretted a run! Thanks, helps a lot!

I think my attitude on Strava has changed recently. I used to feel self conscious about my pace and my distance, and that was pretty east because i have friends that run 70 miles a week and can half marathon in an hour ten.

But once you spend time and run with those guys you get an appreciation for the training itself. I did a threshold run with a friend the other day, his heart rate? 121bpm average. Your slow runs are what build you into a fast runner. Every slow run you take brings you closer, so does the consistency and your recovery. I think it's about viewing yourself as an athlete.

This is an amazing video!! I resonate with everything you said, including the part about not using Strava. My running journey has felt incredibly personal to me –– cleansing my mind so I could focus on good work, conquering the challenges, and pushing through even when I didn't feel like it. When I used Strava, I felt like its social features took away my reason for running, which was for myself only, and I wanted to always be authentic. Your research is also very insightful and inspirational :)

I don't particularly love running but wow I feel great after a run. Without getting into details I can honestly say running has saved my life 100%
