Solving Linear Equations in One Variable

In this lesson, we will review how to solve a linear equation in one variable, which is also known as a first-degree equation. In order to solve a linear equation in one variable, we will follow a simple four-step procedure:
1) Simplify each side separately
2) Move all variable terms to one side, and all constants to the other
3) Isolate the variable
4) Check the result using substitution

why do you subtract bigger x first ? i thought you subtract from the smaller x first ?

Hello! I bought your lectures on udemy and I'm happy about it. I have a question! On 10:47, why did you minus 24 to 24 x when 24x is subtracted by 40? Aren't you suppose to do the opposite of the operation? I hope my question makes sense. THANK YOU SO MUCH

the problem at time 11:16 you subtract -24x from 56x and the previous problem you did it the other way, why is that ?
