In this video, I react for the first time to ELO performing “Mr. Blue Sky”, which I found to be gloriously happy. I analyse why that might be from a music theory perspective and come to some cool conclusions that I am excited to share with you. I also analyse their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate the vocal and composition techniques. I love this era of music, when things were so soulful and groovy!

I'm so excited to be a part of your singing journey, It's one that truly never ends.

Love you forever,
The Fairy Voice Mother x

Hello, gorgeous! I'm Lolli, your Fairy Voice Mother. I am a composer, arranger, voice teacher, & vocal anatomy nerd specialising in contemporary techniques. I have a degree in vocal performance, and I am studying for a masters degree in voice pedagogy. I sing all the time in styles such as pop, jazz, rock, metal, soul, Hindustani, Carnatic and I am constantly learning and practicing new vocal skills. I just bloody love singing. It's my favourite thing in the whole world, and because I love you, I want you to sing too. I believe everyone can sing, and my mission with this channel is to break down techniques that are so often portrayed as something to be exclusively accessed by people with a special talent. Well. Special talents can be learnt, and I am here to teach them to you.

The person who creates the most happiness on YouTube reacting to a song that creates happiness? This is a dream! 😍

I've known about this song for 40 years. She hears it for 13 seconds and has a better analysis of the meaning than I ever had

Freaking masterpiece from the mind of the musical genius that is Jeff Lynne… I’m 50 years old and didn’t appreciate ELO nearly enough as a child.❤

The "clink clink clink clink" sound you hear is a metal rod striking a fire extinguisher!

The cowbell is actually a fire extinguisher.

This is the 4th part of a larger piece Jeff called "Concerto for a Rainy Day" that takes up the 3rd side of Out of the Blue. Always interesting to listen to people who know what they're talking about and who understand music under the hood talk about why it just sounds so fab.

This is hands down the best reaction video to a song i have ever seen. Great reaction to the song, excellent explanation of the chord progressions and all other aspects of the song. A beautiful smiling face and great singing and some piano work. Couldn't ask for more. Thanks for being a blue sky yourself and keep up the good work.

It's so frustrating that this edited version even exists - the most beautiful outro in history, cut short. Please listen to the full version with the longer outro finishing with "Please turn me over" (it was the last song on side A of the LP). Fantastic analysis by the way, I've subscribed :)

Surely been mentioned already, but the small snatches of Lolli singing parts of this are truly beautiful - I'd take a slow piano cover of this any day.

I hereby request a cover of Mr. Blue Sky by Lolli Wren. The bits we heard when you were explaining the harmonies were so lovely.

I love your appreciation of the technique but also the childlike wonder of where music takes you that’s a beautiful balance of a mind

This song came about when the band was trying to write songs for a new album. They were in a cabin and couldn't come up with anything, making them frustrated. Not helping the mood was the gloomy and rainy weather outside. Until one morning the rain had stopped, the sun was shining again and the sky was a clear blue. Inspiration struck and a hit song was born.

Have loved this song (and band) forever, but this song is even MORE fun when watching baby Groot dancing to it!

Mr. Blue Sky is the fourth part of Concerto For A Rainy Day, a four part suite. It starts with Standing In The Rain which transitions to Big Wheels which transitions to Summer and Lightning and then finishes with Mr. Blue Sky. Best listening experience is to hear the whole Concerto as a whole.

Jeff Lynne wrote Out of The Blue which is a double album while staying in a Swiss Chalet for a couple of weeks. Most of the time in inclement weather. Eventually that led to the weather breaking to Blue Skies. So inspiration hits in the strangest ways sometimes. 😅
