Do Mexican moms like Japanese food? 🇯🇵

In this episode, the mamahs tried a few Japanese dishes! Among them were a spicy shio ramen, salmon sushi, taiyaki, takoyaki, natto beans, and unadon! Some of the moms had tried these items before, but all of them were taken by surprise when they tried natto for the first time which are fermented soybeans! Unadon was a new dish for the moms to try as well. Unadon is a barbecued eel filet served over a bed of rice. Would you try any of these foods?

Greetings from Japan! Thank you for trying various Japanese foods! You were all very brave trying natto! Natto is something that you either hate or you like it. Even here in Japan, not all Japanese people like it. Also for the taiyaki, we do have other types of fillings here too! Red bean paste is traditional, but you can get your taiyaki filled with almost anything you want. Chocolate, custard, matcha green tea, whipped cream, etc.

As a Japanese American, I loved seeing everyone giving everything a try. Also props to the folks who picked these foods because I’d say these are common foods in Japan but not super common outside of Japan unless you’re Japanese. Also you gotta give the natto with something! You typically eat it over rice as part of breakfast. Eating it straight up is a bit intense.

As a latina who grew up with a Japanese step father I knew what was gonna happen when I saw that Natto lmfao ...you gotta mix it with other stuff.

I am Japanese. All those dishes that the ladies tried didn't look freshly cooked. The takoyaki looks like the frozen takoyaki. Real takoyaki that is freshly cooked is much better. The eels don't taste fishy if it is cleaned and prepared properly. Frozen unagi (Japanese grilled eels) often taste fishy and not as good as unagi you get at a proper unagi restaurant in Japan.

Natto isn't eaten just like that. Japanese people add chopped spring onions, Japanese mustard and soy sauce to natto to make it taste better.

Good for them, lots of Japanese people don't like natto either! It's usually mixed with other flavors like soy sauce, hot mustard, on top of rice, etc., not eaten by itself. Also I thought it was really cute the ladies trying chopsticks and eating sushi with a fork, it made me smile.

The lady who seemed to be looking for the garbage can as she was describing the natto had me cracking up 😅

I replayed the natto part many times because it was so funny. You're all mean for not serving it to them with some rice! 😂

Every time I find a tupper of rotten beans in the fridge, I imagine that's how natto must smell like. But I'm used to have bold flavors and smells, what scares me the most is the texture 😅

When I was in college, the anime club had a natto eating contest. After the contest was over, anyone who wanted to try the leftover natto was welcome to do so. I tried it and immediately said "It tastes like @$$." When our club president said that some people like to eat it with mustard, I gave it a try. One club member asked me, "How does it taste now?" and I replied, "Like @$$ with mustard!"
