In Seoul, South Korean anti-corruption investigators are trying to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over his short-lived martial law decree last month.

Hundreds of Yoon's supporters have gathered outside his residence in the South Korean capital, vowing to block his arrest. It's unclear if Yoon himself will cooperate, his lawyers have called the arrest warrant 'invalid' and 'illegal'. Yoon is under criminal investigation for insurrection and is already suspended from office over his attempt to impose martial law.

I suspect Yoon’s plan for martial law was started as far back as 2022 or before, since he decided to move the presidential office from the Blue House to a defense/military compound (equivalent in the US of moving the presidential office to the Pentagon), so he could use the legal argument about exposing military secrets if investigators tried to get into his offices. He may have planned to declare martial law much later in his term, but his party losing control of the National Assembly triggered an early attempt.

To be clear, the legal argument about exposing military secrets to investigators is only valid if he resist arrest, so I suspect it has little actual legal basis and is more of a political ploy.
