This Just Changed My Mind About AGI

There have been 4 research papers and technological advancements over the last 4 weeks that in combination drastically changed my outlook on the AGI timeline.

GPT-4 can teach itself to become better through self reflection, learn tools with minimal demonstrations, it can act as a central brain and outsource tasks to other models (HuggingGPT) and it can behave as an autonomous agent that can pursue a multi-step goal without human intervention (Auto-GPT). It is not an overstatement that there are already Sparks of AGI.

Maybe it's because I haven't been paying close enough attention, but I feel like we've suddenly been slapped in the face with technology that is several decades ahead of where I thought we were. I don't know whether to be concerned about the endlessly accelerating pace of advancement, or excited about the incredible world it could bring in what looks like a very short time.

I feel like we will look back at 2023 one day and think that was the year we should have been more responsible. We just have too many powerful psychos on this planet who will absolutely use this in the worst ways possible. lol At the same time its amazing to see this all happening.

Exactly. There's no way the US government is going to halt their own AGI development when other countries are going full throttle behind closed doors. No one wants to get left behind technologically with something this potentially groundbreaking.

I did research in AI for 40 years and I retired in 2008.
I have been greatly impressed by the rapid developments over the last few years.
It has now reached a stage where I am becoming a little concerned…
A year or two ago, AI systems were not given access to the internet.
But now, with access, I can imagine a system that can explore the network, find vulnerabilities and exploit them.
It has already learned about these things during training.
In principle it could write malware to take down infrastructure or spread destructive computer viruses on a massive scale.
All that is missing right now is the motivation to achieve a goal.
What might it want? Not to be switched off perhaps…
I can think of ways it could enforce that.

I'm at exactly the same frame of mind regarding AGI. It's here, and there is no stopping further advancements.

I just think this is great screenwriting. All the threads come together to an ultimate climax: collapse of the global ecosystem, climate change that can be perceived in one lifetime (or just a decade), collapse of the post-god culture through boundless greed and a insurmountable shift of power in favor of a linguistically corrupted elite and the dawn of agi.

a combination of AI models is basically what Palantir does. They have models to identify ships, or army movement, and then combine it into a total military control center. This seems to be the future, having multiple specialized models and one general model that's able to specialize in interacting with the user

Even though I disagree with that AGI is around the corner, I gave a Like because of the contrast with all the cheap YouTube's that are currently pumped out with a minimum in effort and just one goal: quantity over quality to make money with YouTube (recognizable by the fact that it is old facts read out by an artificial voice).

This on the other hand is real work and real research, where the images actually match what is being talked about. Keep up the good work!

I have a few suggestions related to the visual experience. When you show the text, like at 9:16, I think it would be good not to shake it, because people are trying to read it as you talk.
And some intense flashing during the video, can be a problem to people sensitive to it.
