Great informative video as always, Jon & Jeff. My Saturday morning coffee wouldn’t be the same without the Today’s Craftsman videos, thank you for sharing them & your knowledge with us. If you don’t mind me asking, Is Rob still a part of GSJ? I’ve not seen him in a while.

One key to how spiral flush trimmers work is that they shear rather than chop like a conventional straight trimmer. The cutting edge is always engaged in the work.

I would have been interesting to show the performance of a straight trim bit, as compared to the upcut and downcut bits, as the spiral bits are considerably more expensive.

That square bearing is nice. It's annoying to get a mark from the bearing.

I always use a climb cut to minimize tear out, though exclusively with straight flush cut bits. Is this a bad idea when you don’t have a spiral bit? Love the channels. Both of you have made such practical content. TY

"No more than 1/2 the diameter" rule may be more related to hardwood, in particular woods that tend to be splintery, grabby and/or have wavy grain. Big bites with bigger bits in say, flat-sawn walnut, can scare the hell outta you when they grab!

What about router speed. I heard spiral bits are prone to breaking if run at high speed. Someone suggested like a 2 or 3 on a trim router

Great video, Jon. What happened to Rob at Greene St? Haven't seem him in a while; always got a kick out of his presentation style.

We use flush cuts daily for cutting out plywood around window and doors RSOs on exterior walls.
What do you think would be the best style of bit available that would do the job and last the longest

Excellent explainer video Jeff & Jon! BTW, I was just wondering where the older gentleman is that use to be in the shop videos with Jeff? Just curious. Thanks!

As an audio mixing professional, I sure wish you would’ve upcut one of his clips.
