Sadly back in the day people didn't know that autism can cause pickiness when it comes to food

Generational trauma manifests but it takes a strong person to break the chain.

The spanking harder and begging to stop really crushed my heart. Then he said bruising?! Yeah thats fcked

I understand wanting kids to eat their healthy food on the plate, but literally beating a 2 year old for not eating is terrible, and in no way is that ever justified

My parents did the same thing, they knew I was on the spectrum, but they "wanted to raise me like a normal kid"

as somebody on the autism spectrum, being punished for something thats not your fault especially at such a young age is extremely degrading, im glad this father realized what he was doing was wrong, and stopped doing it.

If your child is too young to understand what behavior you're trying to correct, they're too young to understand why you're hitting them and hurting them.

There's never any excuse to hit your child, ever.

I’m so happy I live in a country where it’s illegal to punish your child in any physical way. Even spanking them can send you to prison. Spanking a two year old child so hard it leaves bruises is not healthy. Autism or not. It only shows the child to resolve conflicts with violence.
Show them how to use your words instead. And no. Not in a harmful way. Degrading children or putting them through mental abuse is also illegal here.

I have raised 3 children without ever putting a hand on them or being cruel. They are well regulated, safe and happy.

Yeah I don't belive one second that the other kids beatings wasn't severe. They where just to scared not to obey. A man giving a 2 year old bruises in anger had issues well before this. I'm glad he finally got some sense into him but it feels like he's still diminishing his actions, 'if he wasn't autistic it would have been fine'

Beating a literal 2 year old should straight up get you to jail.

It’s insane to me that entire generations of people thought it was acceptable to physically abuse their children as long as they were able to say “it’s for their own good” as an excuse to be a horrible parent

He didn't spank the kid, he beat him. Anything out of anger is not a spanking.

Yea, you shouldn't need physical evidence of abuse to know you shouldn't abuse your children.

"no one would have called it abuse" okay, I will

This is why people do gentle parenting..instead of continuing the Generational trauma of hitting and yelling at you kids...

Spanking isn’t okay and should not be normalized. I was a kid who got spanked when I was young and I would bawl my eyes out after each time and lock myself in my room the whole night. It only scares your kids and makes them think that doing something wrong is always going to hurt. It’s abuse plain and simple and it has the same effects as abuse

Here is someone calling spanking abuse. It's abuse. Simple as

I felt vindicated when I read that forcing kids to "clear their plate" causes a disorder that ends it obesity. Especially if the parent plates the food. Usually too much for a kid.

Forcing someone to eat something should be considered abuse

I mean, good on him for trying to break the circle of abuse and all, but it took him five kids. The damage was already done.
