A gunman killed three people and wounded five others on the campus of Michigan State University before taking his own life, police said.

Authorities released the name Tuesday of the gunman who killed three students and wounded five more on the campus of Michigan State University a day earlier, prompting a manhunt that ended with a confrontation with police and his death from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Chris Rozman, deputy chief of campus police who spoke at a briefing Tuesday, said authorities received multiple calls of a shooting at Berkey Hall, an academic building, at around 8:18 p.m.

"There was an absolutely overwhelming police response to that call," he said, adding that officers arrived within minutes. Two of those killed and several of the wounded were found there, he said.

I was there as a 1st responder and I can say when it’s your community it hits harder than anything you can watch on the news. Everyone thinks it won’t happen in their community, until it does. RIP young Spartans.

I live in Lansing close to where that was, we were close enough to hear the gunshots. It’s a very different and scary feeling when it’s your school and your friends that are in the mess. Rip to those that we lost that night.

I remember my teacher one day locking the doors of my classroom and completing shutting every source of light and where u can see into the classroom. I remember sitting with my friends at a working table and we saw her and immediately looked at each other and our hearts were beating like a pack of wild horses storing across fields. She told us that our school was about to go on lockdown because of a guys carrying a gun walking around campus. We were all trying to not make a sound sobbing. Huddled up in the corner of the classroom. I was so scared and I had snuck my phone into my pocket in the start of the day. And oh my dear was I so happy I did. It’s crazy what people do and what goes through there mind these days. At this point welcome to the 2020’s and America

I was in something similar and all I could think about was my sister and how she had a class going on at the time right next to where the women entered the building, my friend (Ilysm Roxanne) kept me awake so I didn’t pass out as I silently cried. When everything was over I didn’t even ask permission and I ran out the door, ten year old me ran down the three flights of stairs and fought through teachers to look for my sister, when I didn’t see her I started screaming and I ran to the bathroom and called my mom, “MAMA IM SCARED, JUJU IS SO LITTLE! I-I”
“Honey, Julie stayed home because she didn’t feel well, what happened?” “The- the lockdown… my friend, I love you so much please don’t let me leave!” I sobbed to my mother “Sweetheart I’m getting you help just, hang on.” My mom called the guidance counselor who talked to me and others. That day I didn’t walk home, I ran so fast, while running and crying I ran into my parents and my sisters, my dad tried to hug me but I grabbed my sister “ARE YOU HURT?” I stuttered “No, I love you” my parents and sisters hugged me.

When I’m upset and on the phone with my therapist I can hear my mother saying things like “I wish, I would kill that women who tried to do that to her and my babies”

While writing this I’m crying, because this brings back the memories that rot and replay in my head everyday. No child deserves this!

The shooting didn’t happen in this building but they got 911 calls and evacuated the building. This is a dormitory called akers and not the union or berkey hall which was where the shooting were

I still remember when someone discharged a gun in the bathroom next to my classroom in high school. Worst part was the student really was dealing with a ton of bullshit and it should have never happened, shot themselves in the foot. We also dealt with a bomb threat almost every other week for an entire year.. shit you not... we had three back to back in one week... ONE WEEK! this was also right after 9/11 to age myself. Worst part of everything was realzing as an adult just how much of a part of the problem I was instead of the actual solution.

"McRae was arrested in June 2019 for carrying a weapon without a concealed pistol license.[44] Initially charged with a felony, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor unlawful possession of a loaded firearm as part of a plea agreement in November 2019.[45] He was originally sentenced to twelve months' probation, which was later extended to 18 months, and in May 2021, he was discharged from probation.[41] Because McRae was not convicted of a felony, his ban on possessing weapons ended with the end of his probation." Laws don't work unless you enforce them

I live here, the whole incident was done inside of 20 minutes the kids screaming and calling 911 for 5 hours was ridiculous, the dude that did it was my old neighbor, I go to school here, it was bad but could've been worse. That's why so many of us carry on campus. Spartan strong.

More gun free zones, right? More places to have no one to respond to an attack.

A man with a weak mindset is a dangerous man in society you know what happens when you get a man who can't control there emotions you get school shooters, killers, rapist men who can't control there emotions are dangerous but you get a man who is strong he will be stoic and think about his actions carefully a man with a strong body has a strong mindset think about it 💯

Whoever does a school shooting.. i hate you i hope you rot imagine shooting up a school just because of a relation ship, bad grades, etc. That is so pathetic and whoever shoots up a school is taking life’s away from small innocent people. Taking away their future and its just so heartbreaking to see so much people die and people losing their family.. 💔
