Our 5 WORST Selling Daylilies (& Why We Love 'Em!)

We always talk about our "Best" daylilies or our "Favorite" daylilies or our "Top 10" daylilies.... but we don't ever talk about our "Worst" daylilies. Until now.

We love daylilies and think they're all beautiful. That being said, we know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The daylilies in this video, for whatever reason, just don't attract buyers like others on our website or in our catalogs.

In this video, Ken Oakes walks through the garden to show some of our Worst Selling daylilies... and why we love 'em.

.............................
ABOUT US:
Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that's been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

.............................
FARM-FRESH TO YOU!
When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and produce more blooms quicker.

All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

I love your daylilies. I've tried multiple varieties over the years and I've finally found my absolute favorite: Persian Market. It's been blooming its head off, and this is its first year. I've had no problems with rust, which is a real issue in my area, and its flower scapes and buds are very strong, so there's no loss of future flowers when I accidentally bump into them. The color is a rich, vibrant rosy peach that literally glows during golden hour. Persian Market is a keeper for sure.

G'day Ken, as usual a great video and one i felt i had to comment on. Those daylilies are all spectacular in their own way ie color, size, rebloom, Wayside Red Ensign for example i would buy/have in a heart beat. Over here in Australia we're just getting into the good time of the year for daylilies, happy days 😊

I had Royal Palace Prince at my last house, and loved it. I looked to buy it for my new place a couple of years ago and didn’t see it. Now that I know it’s in stock I’d better hurry, after everyone sees this video! 😅

Nice varieties to highlight. I do believe you are correct, the static photos the site do not do these justice. They are all "dormant" types which do not do well where I live. While there are many worthy evergreen/semis available - I always find myself admiring the dormant varieties. Sigh...

dappled dynamo looks better when i can see the entire plant!!! i think in the catalog i just saw... "very tall? might overwhelm my small garden..."

Here in Alabama, my Black Arrowhead is reblooming on September 4th. It's not even listed as a rebloomer.

If I won the lottery, I'd probably spend most of it on daylilies, Japanese maples, and other plants. I love daylilies!!
