Discover how chemotherapy drugs use cytotoxic agents to attack cancer cells and the impact they have on your body.

--

During World War I, scientists were trying to develop an antidote to the poisonous yellow cloud known as mustard gas. They discovered the gas was irrevocably damaging the bone marrow of affected soldiers. This gave the scientists an idea: cancer cells and bone marrow both replicate rapidly. Could mustard gas be used to fight cancer? Hyunsoo No details the discovery and development of chemotherapy.

My mom has survived 2 cancers and is now on her 3rd one. Cheers to all the brave souls who's fighting this disease with their courageous heart. May all of you be blessed with healing.

A girl in my class had lukemia, when i aked about her hair loss, she said that it's literally nothing compared to what she was really going through, afterwards she explained me how does it really feel being affected by cancer.

I'm glad that because of these modern technology, my friend is cured ! ♡

Chemo has saved my life. I was fragile, tired, always vomiting, lost tons of weight, my immune system entirely destroyed. But it saved me. Thank you science. Thank you Dre Desy (My now retired Oncologist)

I was diagnosed by Hodgkin Lymphomia when I was 18, it was in stage 2 proceeding to stage 3, I was really scared but chemotherapy saved me along side with radiotherapy and now I'm fourth year cancer free. But I still have some problems that I have to face. This is really good video that shows healthy people what it's like. Stay strong!

I was diagnosed with Anaplastic large cell lymphoma when I was 18 months old and had taken chemotherapy till I turn 5 years old. Born 1996, my earliest memories was battling cancer, very harsh and scary reality to wake up to as a child. Who knew cancer patients can develop minor PTSD, I certainly didn't, yet I'm frequently told they can. I wish the best for anyone is a cancer survivor or still is battling cancer.

My dad had colon cancer. After finished his chemo, his fingers were numb and he can't even hold a pen. He was confirmed free of cancer but not for long, his cancer back. It was heart breaking. Rip

Hats off to those battling. You guys are WARRIORS. I saw my mom go through it for 15 years; surgeries, radiation, chemo. I know I couldn't do it. I'm not that tough.

My grandmother has had various cancers for nearly 50 years now. The hospital has become like her second home because of the number of times she has been there. The amount of damage the treatments have done is clearly visible but, even to an agnostic like me, it's like a miracle she is still alive. I think it's because of her immense faith as she prays on a daily basis and has a very strong devotion to Christianity. I can't imagine living through the kind of suffering she has endured for nearly 5 decades.

TED-Ed's video topics seem random and appear to spring out of thin air, but looking at the bigger picture continue an overarching theme to tell a cohesive story with its older clips. With your amazing visuals and easy-to-understand explanations, you are able to both entertain and educate.

My mother died from cancer when I was 8 years old. I can’t imagine how sad and devastating that journey was for her but I know she’s living in God’s heavenly kingdom alongside others that have died due to this disease. I hope that those suffering from this can be cured so they can live the rest of their lives with their loved ones.

I’ve never had cancer myself and I’m so grateful. I am now thinking my life isn’t so bad after all. I pray and I hope whoever has cancer gets cured and lives a happy life <3

I am 24 years old and just three months ago I felt invincible. The healthiest I’ve EVER been. I ate a whole food plant based diet, did daily yoga, hiked with friends, walked my dog daily- just lived a super active lifestyle. A month ago I got diagnosed with stage IV cancer. The cancer I have, cholangiocarcinoma aka bile duct cancer, is very rare. I was told only 10% of people with my cancer make it past two years. I have innumerable tumors all over my liver, in both lungs, and in my lymph nodes. I pray everyday for a miracle, and couldn’t be more thankful for science.
