Rake, although not one of his more popular songs, has always been my favorite by Townes Van Zandt. There’s something about the sorrowful reminiscing lyrics comparing his current self to who he was that provides context to the haunting tone and delivery of the performance that always hit me differently.

I love that sadness in your songs and covers, James. They sound like whole life is a crashed, half-abandoned road, but everyone still walks forward on it, 'cause there is no other option.

You remind me of Eddie Vedder. Some similarities in vocals, but it is your unique, captivating sound that embellishes every song with a gripping personal experience through it. You feel your songs, your covers. The emotion just flows through your tone, the grit and smoothness, the crescendos and decrescendos, it’s fantastic. This is actual talent people.
