Finally I have made it outside of Moscow. Kirov is 1000km from Moscow by airplane. I was fortunate to fly there to take a look at a very TYPICAL Russian Supermarket. I am continually told to visit shops not in Moscow, so here I am in Kirov. I finished of the video back at my local shop. Let me know in the comments how this compares to "YOUR" local supermarket in the country where you live? Let's here a few reviews and how it compared to Russian supermarkets.

Maybe you would like me to travel to other regions in Russia and would like to support the channel to get there:

Russel, I have mentioned it before that I really enjoy your pleasant and soothing voice. I think you could easily do audiobooks or podcasts when you tire of what you do now. Best wishes from Australia

Once again another beautiful shop in Russia, We have the price scanners here in Ontario Canada, but we don't have the magnifying glass. Also maybe the Russian government can show other governments how to reduce the cost of foods for others, the prices are crazy here.

Another great informative video Russell thank you- I like the idea of the magnifying glass. I need to read contents and there is no way I can do it here in Spain.

3300km from Moscow. Novosibirsk. Pyaterochka is located on part of the first floor of my nine-storey building. Its size is smaller than the one in the video. But the assortment is slightly smaller. The prices are about the same. In general, small chain stores are very popular in Russia. A Magnet is working in the next house. There is a Chizhik ("Finch") and a Lenta ("Ribbon") across the street from me. In the next block there is another bigger Pyaterochka, Yarche! and Maria-Ra. In all of them, the prices are about the same, but the brands of goods differ by 40 percent, I would say. Almost every store has its own brands of products. Fish and meat stores are also often chain stores. There is a "Fish Day" and a "Torgovaya ploshad' ("Shopping area") in front of my home. One for fish, the second for meat, milk, cheese and cottage cheese from local farmers. Separately, there are chain pastry shops and bakeries - Khlebnitsa (Breadbox), Kulikovsky and Dudnik. These are the shops that are less than a 10-minute walk from my apartment. I live 4km from the city center.

Stores compete with each other and in order to attract customers, they make discounts on different products. We have an "Edadeal" app to keep track of which store is more profitable to go to today, for example, for canned green peas (this is one of the most important components of the classic New Year's salad in Russia)))) I'm too lazy to follow this, I just go to the Pyaterochka in my house, but my grandmother (74 years old) loves this app very much and always knows where the discounts are and where it's worth going today)) The same application (Lekvapteke) is available for pharmacies. We have a lot of chain pharmacies. There are 4 of them in my Neighborhood alone.

During the day, people like my grandmother go shopping, i.e. pensioners and young mothers on maternity leave. Pyaterochka even has an additional 10% discount for pensioners from the moment of opening until 13.00. After 5 p.m., the shops are crowded. Because mostly people work until 5 or 6 p.m.

In my local shop (basically our Pyatorochka) there's 2x less products and only like 8 different pastries on the shelf. And I'm right near the capital city in a Nordic country. 30 minutes away from capital city center.
