Avatar: What if Toph Was the Avatar?

Avatar the Last Airbender fans rejoiced at the news of Avatar Studios officially becoming a thing with the show’s original creators on board to produce and write new content set in our favorite fantasy world. It’s something to celebrate for sure! As the Avatar world continues to expand, it’s now more important than ever to discuss our best What If scenarios and dream timelines in order to create some truly fun and unique stories.

Which brings us to Toph. Toph is a fan-favorite character in the Avatar universe. She’s just flat-out awesome in mostly every way. Sure, she can be a bit stubborn and hardheaded and will ultimately just do what she wants, but she has such style and flair that we can’t help but love her. So what would happen if Toph was the Avatar instead of Aang? Obviously, everything would be completely different! Toph is almost the polar opposite of Aang, so what would her learning the other elements be like? Aang was a great student, but Toph might have trouble taking lessons from anyone else don’t you think? Also, would her blindness make things like waterbending and firebending more difficult? Well that’s what we’re here today to find out!

If Avatar Toph was an Avatar What If, she would be canonical: 1) the first blind Avatar, and 2) the first Avatar to use one element to learn how to master the other three elements

I've had an idea for "What if Toph Was the Avatar?" for a while.

My idea was that Toph, nor her parents, would know she's the Avatar; not until they meet Zuko and Iroh, who are being hunted by Azula. Zuko wants to take Toph to his father and restore his "HONOR!" But Iroh believes Toph should be trained as the next Avatar and restore balance. Of course, her parents aren't gonna let their "helpless" daughter go with people from an enemy nation. So, Toph runs away, joins Zuko and Iroh in her training with Firebending. Zuko would act like an older brother figure to Toph and help her vent her frustrations, while she would help him do the same. After Toph masters Firebending, they have to find an Airbending teacher. But they're all gone... unless...

Plot twist! It turns out that before the attack on the Air Temples, Aang, Monk Gyatso and Appa were caught in a storm and flung into the sea; but a Spirit saved them both by preserving them in ice, only to be eventually freed by Katara and Sokka.

(Probably should've explained this before, but Aang isn't the Avatar in this AU. Instead, one of his friends from the temple were. His friend took his duty as the future Avatar seriously to the point where they couldn't hang out anymore. Monk Gyatso sees how Aang is upset by this and they decide to take Appa for a flight to take his mind off it. And Aang's friend was killed during the Fire Nation attack on the Air Temples. Then, the next avatar was born in the Southern Water Tribe until they were eventually killed during one of the raids.)

(Alternate idea by ItzTime: "But i do think it would be better to consider Aang was an avatar, but we do know he has mastered air so he could just train Toph through spiritually.")

Hearing rumors about Airbenders in the Southern Water Tribe, Team Avatar set sail immediately, while avoiding Azula and other enemies. When they finally reach the South, they are treated exactly how "three" Firebenders would be treated. But when Toph proves herself as the Avatar, Monk Gyatso agrees to teach her. Katara wants to go with them since after Toph completes her Airbending training, she would need to learn Waterbending, which will take them both to the North Pole to find a proper teacher. Toph will be trained at one of the Airbending temples, and the journey is going to have some tension between Zuko, Katara and Sokka, with Iroh and Gyatso playing "peacekeepers."

Finally, Team Avatar reaches the North Pole and Toph begins her training to master the final element. With all four elements mastered, Toph decides that it's time to take the fight to the Fire Lord and end the war once and for all.

This is just a rough outline I had, I would appreciate any and all feedback; what should be changed, improved, added or removed all together.

If Toph was the avatar and learned blood bending.. she'd be unstoppable
Firstly she can sense people already, by their heartbeat and can tell if you are lying, but if she ever learned blood bending she could feel everything about you, your blood movement, heartbeat, she could prob figure out what's wrong with very sick people and could help them if she became a healer.

If Toph was the avatar, she will have a hard time learning bending from Aang and Zuko, but most likely, Katara, they don't get along so well😅

I've always found it strange that Bei Fong and Sato are among the few families to have actual last names. Not even Ozai and Zuko had a family name revealed. Just odd seeing how surnames are such a huge deal among Asian cultures.
