Quad Bayer's biggest advantage is increased dynamic range. The four capacitors under each color filter can use slightly different exposure timings. The internal Sony EXMOR A/D conversion combines the slightly different timings into one pixel output. In theory, we are supposed to get a stop or 2 more dynamic range.

Hay everyone, thanks for watching this one.

Somethings I wanted to add as afterthoughts on this subject.

Most manufactures that have done this have used this to improve HDR images and actually get better colour performance in bright conditions and are switching between sensor modes to get the best from it. The simple realty is this is still a 12MP sensor in normal mode and will perform as such.

The Pro Versions 20MP 1 Inch sensor in 6K will wipe the floor with this in the same resolution. In the very brightest of conditions the Standard model will do ok but as soon as the light drops it’s going to fall over massively.

This is not about saying the EVO 2 is bad or not as good as other drones this is about exposing some extreme marketing tactics that appear to be happening here and while we have had others do things like Line Skipping, Sub Sampling and Binning this is very much a step further and not the same.

Using methods to reduce resolution are always needed on large sensors however this is trying to create resolution that is not really there.

The standard model really is very similar to the Skydio 2 and Mavic 2 in this sense and it’s really not a massive jump ahead in camera spec, remember the Mavic 2 Zoom can do a processes 48MP image as well but that’s only in stills. Autel are using a little more trickery to achieve 8K video but it is still trickery non the less.

The Evo 2 brings Autel in-line with DJI mostly with the 1 Inch model but this is no great jump anywhere. The Pro is the same as the Mavic 2 Pro and while there are extra Object Avoidance Sensors that’s not to say it’s better overall.

Choose your model carefully and for me the Pro model is 100% the only option over the two main models.

I got mine 2 weeks ago and it's proving you wrong mate. Way too much better than Dji models. I got mavic zoom 2, mavic 2 Pro and Dji inspire 2 and so far evo 2 is better than all dji drones I got. Pictures and videos are amazing. Autel has done such a great job.

Look forward towards your next vid analysing drones, there is much YouTubers who talks about features from a spread sheet published by the drone company, but hardly anyone actually understands the hardware, your kinda review is what buyers need

This video came out 2 months ago, and yet many people are still saying the Evo 2 is 8k. Just because it says 8k on the box, doesn't mean it's 8k. Great video!

I believe you are on the money with your explanation regarding the 6k vs the 8k. Sounds very logical thanks for that detailed info and also going thru the internal circuitry. Its refreshing too see a vlogger do what you did here rather then just show video from the unit. Great job. I believe I will go for the 6k Pro unit in a few months time after all the hype calms down and I m confident dji will probably be balls to the walls now looking at a competing contender drone. I have enough drones to get by with, so time too sit back back and watch.

Excellent review and well explained. I was wondering about the 48MP rating with a 1/2" sensor and a 20MP rating with a full 1' sensor... made no sense at all until you explained it. I started to build my own Sony RX 20MP drone but never finished. This one should be worth the wait. Long Long Long

Will both the sensors have rolling shutters? Is this this same as electronic shutter? No drones have non-electronic shutters

Great video! I’ll wait for the mavic 3!

An excellent dissection of this new product. The pixel trickery is similar to that used in some astrophotography camera’s but done in reverse. With the AP camera four pixels are binned together to increase light sensitivity at the cost of a lower resolution image.

I'm glad you pointed out this issue. I have a skydio on order and I'm considering a evo .thank you for this break down

The pro model is my choice thus far. Very excited to fly where I want.

Great breakdown! I suspected as much but didn't know the technical description for it. I was tempted to get the base model just to grab a unit and then purchase the Pro camera but I think I'll just wait for the 20MP and if I ever need the Flir option I guess I'll be getting the 8k as a gimmie .
Thanks again. Great stuff.

*So how is 8k footage created on this sensor if it is actually 12mp? How do they gets video resolution of 8k?*

Excellent excellent excellent. For some reason I really like the way the Drone looks.
For now I'm going to stick with my typhoon H 480
Great talk on the
evo 2🔶
It's amazing how drone technology just keeps getting better and better and better.

Very interesting. Thanks for the information. That's why the image quality of the mavic zoom is still better than evo II 8K.

Very interesting! Would be nice to know if they can do real 4k 60p with the 1 ich sensor. In the past I owned the Phantom 4p+ and I was a bit dissappoined because it seems DJI does Lineskipping or binning in 4k60. 4k30 got more detail and movements in 4k60 looks a bit more blurred so I most use 4k30p and interframed it to 4k60 which looks much better than 4k60. Also would be nice to know the framerates of the 8k EVO 2 model. I read that only 24 and 25fps is available? Really no 30p in 8k?

Thanks for your insightful analysis. While I agree that the new 1in sensor is likely to be the better camera, we do know from the current model that Autel sprinkled magic dust on the EVO and managed to get more out of the sensor than any other drone maker.

Meanwhile I'm watching this in 720p on my crappy internet phone lol.
