Today we take another look at Windows 8 Green Edition, and check once and for all if there are any viruses contained in the OS. As I mentioned in the first video, I would not recommend using this as your main OS. Let's discover why.

you should look at the network traffic and sniff the packets. there might be modifications within the kernel and network stack

KMSPico is usually false warning but, like Malwarebytes said, can be obtained from "sites with shady nature". It's not a virus by itself, but I ran into "official" sites that offered KMSPico but only infected the OS with a metric crapton of viruses in the process. And no, not only KMS warnings popped up. Luckily, it was on a freshly-installed machine, so I just reinstalled the whole thing instead of trying to disinfect it.

TLDR: its clean, virus scanners went gaga over KMS activator and an empty directory named "crack" lol.

AutoKMS handles your windows activation, you should have left that one.

You should run this in a VM and check it over with wireshark. There might be shit that isn't picked up by most anti-viruses as they don't have it in their definitions

The KMS stuff isn't malware, it's just a tool you can use when you don't wanna pay for Windows or ms office. By the way love the videos.

Well, you could remove the KMS and activate it legally, but I still wouldn't use/trust it.

The registry has a lot of system settings in it so to be fair its possible thats just the customization.

Why not just use a clean windows iso and then activate it with (tools which shall not be named)

Avast detected stuff like KMSPico in the past but after a while it didnt detect the "clean cracks" by the creators themself anymore

I used to work for a computer retail and repair shop and was told never to use SuperAntiSpyware, we used a program called ADWcleaner which does the same stuff but with a different dictionary. Was actually told SAS is malware in itself as well as CCleaner, although that was because my senior taught me how to clean your own registry, really not hard but still. Would like to hear what people have to say about that as I see a lot of people using both these programs religiously. Oh and Malwarebytes was considered very very good along with Avast.

The change to LowRiskFileTypes clearly show that the authors would at least not mind you catching a virus from excel, outlook, or word. Windows Green --> junk pile... It shows intent. God knows what else could be hidden in a device driver . No test for root kits ? That's the most dangerous - and stealthy - infection you can have in these weird repackaged windows.

Those KMS activators are picked up by Malwarebytes because it is used to illegally activate Windows, not necessarily because it is terrible or anything. The reason it picked up the folder Crack is because it looks for things like cracked and other keywords to warn user of dangers of files on the websites that you can download cracks on. This does not necessarily mean it is malicious. That said, like you said, I would not use this for anything as it is still suspicious. What if there is malware that is new and thus not picked up by any of these scanners? So you should stay away from any of these cracked OSes

Thanks Michael, i was going to install this OS on a low end comouter to see how good it was going to run and keep it, but this video changed my mind, thanks for letting all of us know about this topic

You should sniff the network activity for a long time. It's difficult to detect whether that this OS has lots of malware for a botnet etc. BTW highly potential. AV would not help removing malware from OS level things.

btw, we've all observed how MS was going from basic UI in 3.1 for example to more advanced UI XP and even further with glass effects, shadows and other cool stuff and suddenly they just wen't back to 3.1 with that metro-ish flat design they use in 8 and 10..

Actually been thinking about installing this. Just for the heck of it!

Malware would be the least of my worries. Components of the system possibly recording and sending username and password info out to God Knows Where would be what would make me hesitant to use it. I'd have to Wireshark the hell out of it just to make sure that everything was legit and even then, I wouldn't be completely confident.

Malwarebytes seems to be the only anti-virus (in this video) that detects piracy in Windows 8.1 Green.
