Surviving an Extreme Train Journey Across Russia to Yakutsk - The World’s Coldest City!

Hello from Russia! 🇷🇺 An extreme train journey across Russia to Yakutsk, the world’s coldest city and capital of Sakha Republic, where temperatures drop below -50°C (-58°F) and travel becomes a true test of endurance.
We begin our journey with the Railways of Yakutia in a Platzkart carriage on the Amur Yakutsk Mainline ( AYaM ) built on permafrost, linking the Trans Siberian Railway, Baikal Amur Mainline ( BAM ), and the Far Eastern Railway with the Sakha Republic.
Traveling from Tynda to Nizhniy Bestyakh, a crucial stop on this remote railway built on permafrost terrain. From there, the only way to reach Yakutsk—which has no direct rail connection—is by taking a bus across a frozen Lena River, navigating Siberia’s extreme winter conditions.

Thank you for showing us a railway line and part of the world that most of us couldn't (or wouldn't) be able to visit at this point in time.

Amazing video, with flawless picture quality and beautiful landscapes. I wish my late mother would have lived to see this, she had a lifelong interest in Russia and not least Siberia, and dreamt of riding with the Transsiberian or even further north, Thanks for sharing this! 💗💗 /Louise, Sweden

Wowww, amazing report from the frozen end of the world!!
3:12 you mention the carriages having a particular colour scheme: this decoration represents the flag of the Sakha-Yakutia republic. It symbolises the clear northern sky over the frozen tundra and the green taiga forests of Siberia.

Some Trivia ! The steam trains on display outside most Russian Train Stations are not just for show but they are kept maintained so if the World goes crazy and electricity power and computers are shut down the steam trains can be placed on the tracks and with wood coal and water keep the country train system going.😮

When I was much younger, I enjoyed taking 4 days by similar train from Ottawa to Vancouver. It was a wonderful time for reading, drinking and eating.

Very nice video, definitely encourages me to do it myself. I grew up in Chicago so I know a little about harsh winters. I traveled by train while visiting Russia during the World Cup in 2018 and I really loved it, The Rssian people were most welcoming. Thanks a bunch for sharing this video.
