The smart way to multiply numbers in the 90s

My student taught me this method.

We also learned that you can also do this if both numbers are above 100 and below 100. But you need to apply the concept of integers to make this one happen.

For example,

102 and 95.

100 - 102 = -2.
100 - 95 = +5

102 - 5 = 97
95 - (-5) = 97

You add two zeros at the end of 97 to make it 9700.

-2 x +5 = -10

9700 - 10 = 9, 690

104 and 97.

100 - 104 = -4
100 - 97 = +3

104 - 3 = 101
97 - (-4) = 101

You add two zeros at the end of 101 to make it 10100

-4 x +3 = -12

10100 - 12 = 10, 088

This easy to calculate this in your mind by taking 90 *90 and 7*8 them combined this number together.

How about showing the working for something like 54x64?

If we multiply 91×87 then, 100-91=9 and 100-87=13, then subtracting 91-13=78 which is same as 87-9=78, thereafter multiplying 9×13=117 .
So the answer acc. to this trick is *78117* or considering 4 digits we can make it *7817* but the actual correct answer is *7917*

8 x 17

Cross subtraction = 75
Product of 8 x 17 = 136

Final = 75 (1) 36 = 7636

Let's do another one?

87 x 75

13 x 25

Cross subtraction = 62

Product of 13 x 25 = 325

Final = 62 (3) 25 = 6525

Product of 13 x 25..I did it this way

10x25=250
3x25=75
250+75=325

May seem like a lot but easy...
