The Darksaber is a unique, black-bladed lightsaber created by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi Order. After Vizsla's passing, the weapon was kept deep in the Jedi Temple’s most secure vault, but members of House Vizsla stole it in a conflict with the Jedi during the fall of the Old Republic. It was passed down through the generations by the ancestors of Pre Vizsla, who held onto it even after the pacifist ideals of the New Mandalorians replaced the warrior ways of Mandalore. By the start of the Clone Wars, the Darksaber was in the possession of Pre Vizsla, the leader of Death Watch and House Vizsla during the Clone Wars. He used the blade during his conflicts with the New Mandalorians, including his successful takeover of Mandalore from Duchess Satine, the love interest of obi-wan kenobi. After the coup, renegade Sith Lord Maul killed Vizsla in a duel and took the Darksaber as his own, becoming the leader of Death Watch and Mandalore itself. During the Imperial Era, the Mandalorian weapons expert and rebel Sabine Wren retrieved the Darksaber from Maul’s lair on Dathomir after he lost interest in ruling Mandalore, and gave it to Lady Bo-Katan Kryze, the sister of the former Duchess, whom she deemed to be the rightful person to lead the Mandalorians against the Empire. After the Great Purge of Mandalore, the Empire desecrated Mandalore and Bo-Katan lost possession of the Darksaber. It fell into the hands of Moff Gideon and later the Mandalorian Din Djarin, who was then challenged for the right to wield it by Paz Vizsla, a descendant of Tarre Vizsla. This means Mando is the current ruler of Mandalore.

Minor correction here, but being the wielder of The Darksaber doesn’t inherently mean somebody *is* the Mand’alor. Being the wielder is a *requirement* to claim the title of Mand’alor, and has been since the rise of Clan Vizsla, but that does not mean that all wielders had the title. For example, despite ruling the Mandalorians via the Shadow Collective, Maul was never given the title of Mand’alor, as he was never a Mandalorian. Din Djarin only has the right to *claim* the title of Mand’alor, which he has so far chosen not to.

Unfortunately for him, since Din Djarin rejected the rule, the Darksaber's force energy is rejecting him, hence why the Darksaber feels heavy whenever he wields it.

Sabine gave it to Bo-Katan, even though Bo-Katan is literally one of the Mandalorians who committed treason & helped overthrow Dutchess Satine (her SISTER) & started the chain reaction that led to Mandalore in ruins.

Simply a mesmerize weapon. The saber itself is one of the ancient sword and passed down til now.

Also the saber design changed few times to catch our eyes as well.

I don't think it's ever confirmed that Shae took the Darksaber during the sacking of Coruscant, or that it's her who took it in the first place.

But I love that we all just assumed it is because it's the most likely scenario and it's badass and awesome.

So, in lore, in order to wield the Dark Saber. One must beat the owner in trial by combat in order to become the rightful owner. Bo Katan had it handed to her by Satine rather than fighting Maul for it. Kenobi beat Maul, so technically Kenobi rules Mandalore. (However if we dive into Legends, Mace Windu is technically it's rightful owner since Jango beat House Viszla and they stole it back from him after Mace offed him)

The dark Saber is just amazing not only because of its rarity but the fact that it's how mandalorians determine their ruler and that it's weilded by people who aren't force sensitive. My personal favorite is that it looks like a one sided blade and because of the mandalorian armor being made of beskar it kind of is as it cannot really harm the user

Forgive me if I'm wrong but you just listed the darksaber's wielders? Like, it's cool that we know why Smeagol calls the One Ring was his birthday present, but that doesn't say anything about why the Ring is so important. What are the Darksaber's properties? What abilities does it confer to the wielder? What symbolism does it carry to brandish the weapon?
