As someone with dry skin in a dry climate, I struggle SO MUCH trying to find HA free skincare. It’s almost impossible at this point (especially as I only buy CF & vegan skincare) and it’s so frustrating! HA dries my skin out even more and I want to avoid it at all costs put the skin care industry won’t let me live 😭

Loved this video ! I’ve had irritated skin from over doing Hyaluronic acid in the past but at first I was in denial about it

YES. Thank you. I recently tried using a HA serum before/during baths or before long hot showers. It may not actually help like I imagine it would, but my skin has definitely felt more hydrated. 🤷🏽

It only makes sense, the industry convinces us all that we need ha when in all actuality, it dries us all out so we need more product. It's a brilliant, evil plan. Let's not fall for it! I'm switching to glycerin. Sometimes, it's good to go back to the basics. I'm a basic kinda gal anyways. Don't let anyone ever tell you there is a anything wrong with being basic, it's smart.. thank you doc! The truth is always valuable to me!

I love everything you said about HA! However, I thought what you said about its moisture-grabbing properties would apply to glycerin too? I remember hearing that used in low humidity environments (below 60% from memory), glycerin would leach water from your skin (even if it goes deeper, it’s still going to act in that manner!)

Honestly, I wonder this about all humectants tbh haha. What is the real point in applying them if they’re not adding moisture?

Would applying squalane oil be a good occlusive final step? It’s been difficult to find data on the occlusive potential of oils! Even squalane might only be 30% effective, compared to petrolatum at 90%. I only recently learned that it’s a myth that jojoba is occlusive. I don’t reeeally want to resort to Vaseline lol. (I live in a year round dry part of Australia!)

What’s the best way/best ingredients to ADD hydration to your skin? Is this even really possible? If humectants leach water, then is there really such an ingredient that ADDS hydration BESIDES drinking water? Hahaha. Maybe we should all just moisturise and occlude.

Apologies for all the questions! But I recently read that a ceramide cream composed of the ideal ceramide/cholesterol/fatty acid ratio could actually prevent TEWL as effectively as petrolatum! I think the ratio is meant to be 3:1:1 and you can pick based on your concern which one is the 3, but I could be wrong! You wouldn’t happen to know any products that utilise this ratio? (And that don’t have glycerin or petrolatum, I guess haha).

SORRY FOR THE LONG COMMENT 🌻

This is a HUGELY important video. I actually started steering away from HA over a year ago because I noticed that regardless of what else I was using my skin got more dehydrated after using it. I feel so validated ;-). BTW, you are SO PRETTY!!

Please get to the point. Stop rambling and making jokes. This is torture. I just wanted to know whether it works.

Told to use a suppository for vaginal dryness which really wasn't a problem to begin with. Began using one a night and would wake up with my pubic area and inner thighs covered in it. Reduced by half and then again to a third. I used a total of 19 x 2g suppositories before stopping completely. Suffered a year of hell. Extremely itchy rash which started on pubic area, and spread to include thighs, arms chest and stomach. Suffered extreme constipation. My skin on my arms became extremely dry and looked decades older. 8 months after stopping my skin is back to normal as are bm's. Incredible how invasive/pervasive and long lasting the effects of this treatment were to my body. So thankful to be feeling better.

Never really hopped into the HA bandwagon because I don’t have super dry skin.
But I do use the L’oreal GA.
This was helpful.
Thank you, Doc!

😂Before this video even started, I KNEW you would mention #1. So many people are bamboozled by the beauty industry and the claims of HA. Thank you for posting!!!

I've never used HA on my lips, but I do make my own HA serum and use it on my face. I have normal skin, and this HA serum definitely plumps it up and makes it look softer. I think a lot has to do with the humidity of your environment. If your air is very dry, it feels like HA does the opposite of what we want bc it draws moisture out of your skin in response to the dryness of the air.

YES!! Found out the hard way about HA & overusing it: dry, super-irritated skin. Even before that, I used Cera Va religiously and always wondered why it burned so much on contact (silly me).

Ah, thank you! I remember when I bought a HA serum and when I used it, I woke up the next morning with redness and dry skin, I really didn't understand what was going on because everyone says how incredible HA is. Thanks to you, I know better and now, the only HA in my skincare routine is when I use a product like an exfoliater or a moisturizer that coincidentally also has HA in it. To think that some people spend 200$ on that ridiculous Barbara Sturm HA serum ....
