Beauty of a watch! I was told years ago wind 20 to 30 times before setting and wearing, great info as usual, thanks Alex

Great informative video here Alex. I have always been told by assistants in ADs that I should only wind my watches about 20 times. It’s very reassuring to hear you say that I can’t over wind my watches. I am always overly cautious though so will probably stick to the 20 or 30 winds that you suggested. ✊

cheers mate, would've been very interesting to me as a handyman, tinkerer, fixer of mechanical things to talk about the clutch and ITS relationship to winding various watches. that was one beautiful timepiece eh

Two things I take from this video:

1. Amazed at how may people don't RTFM (Read The F... Manual). However, I do appreciate not everybody may have the manual with their watch.
2. You're pulling the crown out to set the date and time anyway, so just spend an extra 30 seconds winding it!

New subscriber and thank you for the info about winding. I always hear 30-40 times but I must admit if my watch has no power I give it about 70 turns as I have found it seems to improve the accuracy. My concern when you set the date was that you starting the setting at 2am and for years various watchmakers and instruction manuals ( including my Milly) stated not to set the date between midnight and 4-6am as it may damage the calendar works so after I have wound my watch my normal routine is to turn the hands until the date changes, continue to 7am or if it’s still before midday before 12 then change the date. Could you clarify if it’s just this new Rolex movement that allows setting the date between midnight and 6am or have all automatics changed so it’s now safe to do this?

Serious question on winding the other way! If I have a 1980s day date. No problem with that? It would change the day and date. Just curious! Thank you.

Is it true that you can strip the gears on eta/sellita movements by winding the watch too often ? Sorry if it’s a stupid question.

I wind my watches about 40-60 times. On my Tudor after about 40 winds I hear a clicking sound.

Wind it for 5/15 minutes, won't that blow out the mainspring 🤷‍♂️I've always been told 20/40 winds, every week of so, & should you lay your watch crown up or down when of the wrist (bedside desk etc)..I have a D/D 40mm & D/J 41mm..I used a wolf auto winder for year's but its broken & I haven't replaced it🤷‍♂️..
