ORCA Sequencer Intro (Experimental Livecoding!)

Heya! I'm still working on my doubleknot+mosstone vid, but I wanted to make a quick informal video on this cool software in the meantime - it's pretty impromptu and not the best audio quality but I hope you still enjoy it!

Let me know what you think in the comments and maybe I can do a series of videos exploring ORCA a little bit further and making some complete songs :)

By the way, I didn't mention it in this video, but the couple who developed this software live in a studio on a sailboat, where they develop cool open source tools for artist! How rad is that?? :0

Correction, by the way: ORCA uses Base 36 numbers, not 36-Bit, and l was thinking of UDP, not OSC (though it also has OSC capabilities).

Found your video right after installing ORCA and realizing that "Omg, This is incomprehensible! I need a tutorial for this." Then a hour later, I was jamming. Thanks a lot for that!!

Thanks Allie for making this :)

Thanks! Don't worry about it being informal, I liked it. It felt like I was hanging out with a friend and nerding out over cool shit together. :)

Wow, in a couple of minutes you managed to make me finally understand how this works. I thought ORCA was cool from the first time I've seen videos of it, but I wasn't quite sure how to make stuff work up until now. Tried reading the documentation, but it felt as minimal as the app itself. I really needed to see this stuff explained on examples to get a proper grasp on it.
Already tried to hook it up to VCV rack and I can't wait to play around with ti more over the weekend!
This is great. You are great. Thank you! <3

What the hell, your supposedly "informal" video turns me from being scared of Orca and didn't have any idea into jamming with for weeks. You didn't bore us with theories instead giving a direct musical example that is tempting to be tried also. Thank you and bless you

This is the best thing on the internet! Seeing the discovery and learning process is so disarming and delightful.

I don't normally comment on videos... but just wanted to leave my regards. This was super helpful in getting me started. This should be linked on their web page!

Thanks a lot for this great introduction! You make ORCA very graspable and simple to get started with. I like that you try things out and adjust as you go along – it somehow actives a more engaged learning process, which is really helpful.

Thanks for leaving this up. I downloaded ORCA, looked at the "complete guide" on the github page, scratched my head, and bookmarked the tutorial video links.

How wonderfully nerdy a generative tool! Gonna hook it up to SunVox first, because the one thing SunVox is missing (so far..) is a way to create structured random events.

Thanks for the nice video. For the information of those learning and otherwise did not notice; Since the date of this video, F has been updated with input left and right (whereas in this video both inputs are on the right).

My first comment on YouTube so far: I would love to see more introductory videos and tutorials if you feel like it. Thank you very much for this video! You made me reinstall Dwarf Fortress also..
