Sealing marble , or any other kind of natural stone tile is a very important and step that is often done at the wrong time or omitted altogether. Some people think because the marble is polished it does not require sealing, polished or not, the stone tile should be sealed. Just as important as the actual sealing of the tile, is the quality of the sealer. Always use a good quality premium sealer that will give long lasting dependable protection to your stone tile. The process of sealing the tile is actually quite simple and easy, simply apply the sealer to the tile with an applicator, brush, clean cloth, or other appropriate method being sure to wet the entire area. Let the sealer sit for a few minutes, and then wipe it off. Please read the directions of the sealer you decide to use to make sure you follow the manufacturers recommendation for proper application, time required for curing, and for grouting and any other relevant information.

I love your work Sal and appreciate your willingness to teach. I have been an extremely detailed metal fabricator by trade for 20 years and appreciate when I see someone else so dedicated to the perfection of their trade. Because of your detailed videos I’ve been able to tackle multiple tile projects in my home with confidence! Thanks again👍

Use Stainproof sealer, it's the best. Over 100 bucks for a liter jug but it's worth it and there's no buffing off after, any excess evaporates off. 511 sealer is good also.

Hey Sal - this is brilliant - thank you! I have a question about grouting after this process...my tile is a 1' x 1' mesh of both sealed and unsealed ("natural?" smaller rectangle tiles. Do I just need to first seal each of the natural ones in the sheet, and then grout? Can I then grout as usual, or do I need to use a grout bag of something more precise to not stain the natural tiles among the shiny, sealed tiles? Any insights appreciated!!!

Good looking work man... haven't touched some of the possibilities you show in the tile work on this video. Can't wait till I get the chances. Good detail in video as well

How long should you wait to grout after sealing with 511 Impregnator Sealer? Can you/should you also use this on regular ceramic wall tile?

Thank you for your video and tips!! What should I do if my marble tile floor was installed and grouted before sealing? How should I seal it at this point?

with sealers that I use, like idea gold, you soak the surface and let it soak in overnight, then wipe and wash.

Dang I grouted already. I was going to seal it first but I got some bad advice, the guy at Home Depot told me I want to seal the grout too so I should do that first. My fault for not double checking

Beautiful explanation. How long after sealing before you can actually grout? Application is white marble in a shower, light gray unsanded grout.

Hi Sal, thanks for all of your videos, they are a great help. Question... have you encountered polished marble that is difficult to seal? E.g. won't absorb the sealer at all or very much. I had read that this can sometimes happen.

I was told not to seal marble tile inside a shower, as it will degrade and discolor over time, because moisture cannot escape. What’s your take on this? Also would this go for white marble benches and curbs as well?

wish I would’ve seen this a couple years ago when I first got into tile work in our home. I installed slate floor & didn’t seal it before grouting and now at certain angles, you can see the sheen of the grout residue along the grout lines.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it?

I tried after I first installed it and didn’t have any luck, have gone on to other projects and forgotten all about it until seen this video today. 😓

Thanks for your videos. Almost ready to start my project. Do you recommend sealing marble tile going in a shower before placing it on the wall? I know you recommended sealing before grout just curious if there is any advantage or disadvantage of sealing before tile placement with thin set. Thank you.

We did not seal our polished marble backsplash prior to grouting....so after i grouted bit of grey went in to the marble can you advise what i should do from here in terms of sealing and taking care of the marble and perhaps bringing out the white again....which may be impossible but still....this is my first time with experience.

Question: the tile store I bought my Carrara hex tile from said I shouldn’t seal the tile applied to the floor of my shower pan…only the rest of bathroom floor. They claimed the tile will not be able to properly dry out if I do. Has anyone ever heard this? Sounded wrong to me after watching all of Sal’s videos. Thanks to anyone for advice 🙂
