Feed, play, pic, battle ‐> swap buddy -> repeat.
Then leave on a main buddy for candy, walking, and possible new Pokestop.

probably not the first to mention this but you can get up to a max of 32 hearts with your buddy, granted its not entirely f2p since you need the go plus+. 6 hearts each from walking, feeding, and battling. 2 hearts each from playing, snapshot, visiting a new place, and following a route. Here's where it gets tricky, 2 hearts from both gifts, 2 from the sleep bonus with the go plus+, 1 from spinning a powered up pokestop, and 1 from finding a location stop. Its definitely tedious but I've done it before and oh man it looks good

Buddying is the worst addiction, I started a year and a half ago getting 6 hearts a day on 15 buddies and switching in the other 6 during the day to optimally buddy them. I wish I never started but I’m 180/200 on the platinum medal I only have about 40 days to go now and it will finally be all over

The method I'm using:
-Set around 3 or more Master league teams (I'm doing Pokes with different CP levels) with the pokemon you want to best buddy.
-Pick one and use either regular berries or golden, snapshot, scratch, training battle 3 times and change to a different buddy of the same team (so it takes less time to select)
-Repeat until you want or can.
I'm getting 6 hearts for each pokemon so it's 54 hearts a day (I could do more but it also can get boring).
By using only regular berries I feel it's efficient enough and with 6 hearts each day it only takes 50 days (or less depending on the number of gifts you get) for best buddy.

Just takes 12 days to get your best buddy. And if want to do the most at 3 hours including the walking. You can do approximately 3 to 5 in that time period.

I use a rotation system for my best buddies. I select 7 pokemon to best buddy and assign each one a day in the week. On that day, I make sure to excite that pokemon up to 22 hearts. I can typically get that done in the morning by setting a timer for every 10 mins and use the sock method with adventure syn enabled to get walking hearts. Then, I move on to the next day's pokemon, repeating the process to get 22 hearts. With the remaining 19 buddy switches, I will switch to the pokemon for the other days of the week to earn a min of 8 hearts (3 battles, 1 Pet, 1 Photo, and 3 treats). Each time you switch a buddy it can be fed a treat saving time on waiting for it to get peckish. Currently, I am doing the training battle with each buddy pokemon in order to get the trainer plat. badge, but once that is done I can simply go into the battle and give up instantly as it counts as battling and is way more time efficient.

So my system looks like this

Each day: 2 pokemon get 22 and 5 pokemon get 8. Each buddy earns 82 hearts a week.

This always leaves me a few extra swaps a day I can use for background pokemon; usually ones that need buddy requirements to evolve.

My method is to focus on Best Buddying 1 Pokemon and have 6 in the background. This takes about 20-30 minutes every night while I'm watching some YouTube before bed (I've timed it multiple times). Each background buddy gets 8 hearts (9 if they bring me a present) so they will be best buddies in 38 days.

What I do is switch to one of my background buddies, berry it, play with it, snapshot it, then do 3 battles with team leader. (You don't need to finish the battle)
Then switch and repeat with the other 5 background buddies.
Once this is done they should each be at 6 hearts.
After this I go back through each of my background buddies 1 by 1 and feed them again to get the 7th heart, then do one last round feeding them berries to get them the 8th heart.
Once this is done I switch to my main buddy and go to sleep. Then grind as much as I want on the main buddy during the day using poffin or excitement etc..

If this is too much you can stop after the first round with each of them when they are at 6 hearts and they will become best buddies in 50 days instead of 38. Some tips I have to make it faster. All my buddies I'm working on have a tag that I made a keyboard shortcut for to find them easily. When doing the battles with the team leader I have the teams preset with my buddies so I don't have to add them in every time. This should all take 30 minutes max good luck!

This came up as a recommended video, very helpful. Ive been doing the background buddy method for a minute, currently best buddying a 4* Sylveon, 4* Umbreon, 4* Lucky Wartortle and a lucky Cereledge

I work with different pokemon at the same time and always get 6 hearts in one shot (Snapshot, 3 Nanab Berry, play, 3 battle with trainer (I exit the battle at the beginning).
I use Puffin with more strategy for getting more candy and Mega Energy. When I know I will walk more, I use Puffin and I do a route so I make between 18 and 22 heart with one buddy.

My best buddy is like my elit team for Raid or Master League because this pokemon need more candy, more candy XL, more power (so 1 lvl Bonus is Good) and more Mega Energy for the Mega Pokemon.
