I'd appreciate a citation on this, because when I looked it up, I only found Wikipedia describing the connection between physical abuse and the "rule of thumb" as being the result of a false rumor about an English law that never existed.

Rule of Thumb is a pet prevention of mine because language is fluid. Before the 70's it had a more wholesome meaning. An approximate method for doing something, based on practical experience. Like using your thumb as a measuring tool.

Sorry, but that "rule of thumb meant that a man could beat his wife with a stick as long as it wasn't thicker than a thumb" is false. There never was such a law. The origin of that phrase comes down to the width of a "typical" thumb being appriximately one inch.
As much as I'm on board with both of you on this whole topic, that's bad research on a level _so_ bad that it puts his entire work into question.

Why discuss this crap is what I've never understood about your channel when you can outright dismiss its validity. We can easily make better verses from the best in them and we have a sorting tool that's far more succinct and precise than any scholar to do it within nanoseconds. I'm Not sure why we're still stuck in the past, Aron. Let your channel grow. You could easily make a new one and have it focus on the structure rather than the repetition: episode 1: basis of logic and why it matters to distinguish reality vs fiction. Tada. You've helped exponentially. Then, after only 50 episodes, your new channel would be the same size as this one thus solving a bunch of other equations making the noise so compelling (delving into the piles of junk from the past). Effectively, the Quran has- -as its hadiths- -created echo chambers through time as people gave (divine) credibility to imams. Awful. Episode 2: Hadiths are statements from EchoChambers. No need to give me credit I've learned a few things from you.. but you're on repeat! Take good care and... let's teach people How to care not what to care about. Lets fix it. At least, those that we can tackle. We cannot tackle some inherently imposed nonsense like how implicitly ignorant a language forces its users to become, but... that can be circumvented by learning another language and forcing perspectives.
