Severe floods in Central Europe turn deadly in Poland and Austria

A firefighter has died during a flood rescue in Austria, one person has died in Poland and four are missing in Czech Republic, police say.

I was in Austria visiting for the first time and got home yesterday. I've seen rain and winds like that before, but never for the sustained amount of time. It was 3 days straight, non stop, utterly relentless. I'm so sorry to those that have lost loved ones and their homes.

It used to be called 'terrible summer weather' now it's known as 'global warning'! In Siberia where these storms would've originated predictably summers there are short, very hot and sultry with enormous cloud build-up. If at the same time in the Mediterranean area (I'm in Madrid) you have constant anti-cyclonic atmospheric conditions from May till August (if not longer) then the former storms-on-the-make conditions to the NE will be blocked and cannot move west-south-west so as a result severe storms occur in central-NSE Europe. It's not a rare phenomenon. But here we have any excuse to bang on about relentless environmental propaganda.
