In this video, we create a custom sort in Excel. Two custom sort examples are demonstrated - one with generic text and another with month names.
When sorting in Excel by numbers there is a natural sort order, but with text values, the only orders are A to Z or Z to A.
So, what if you want to sort text in the custom order of Max, High, Normal, and Low in that order. You will need to apply a custom sort in Excel, otherwise the values would appear in an order such as High, Low, Max, and Normal.
We will see how to custom sort in Excel with this example, and then a second example where we sort month names in the order of October to September. This is a popular request for users who work with financial years.
