Pilot ejects from fighter jet during vertical landing attempt

That ejection seat worked PERFECTLY. Essentially a ground-level ejection to an open chute and safe landing at 0’ altitude. THAT is outstanding.

The pilot wasn't strapped in when the ejection seat ejected. You can see in the video. He flew out of the seat
