This video was a doozy. Today, I'll be investigating many cheap ocarinas from Amazon, mainly from the vendor everyone sees: OcarinaWind.

Are any of these vendors legit?
Would I recommend any of their instruments?
...or will I have the same result as last time?

Find out all this and more!

Big missed opportunity to call them "ocarinas of crime"

I am a professional ocarina maker and wanted to give my input to the video. The ocarina is a simple and easy instrument to make, but just as well it can be simple and easy to make a wine, what differentiates one ocarina from another is the time and quality control dedicated to each one. For my customers to have confidence in my work I have to always maintain a quality standard and offer a guarantee on tuning, timbre, sound volume and finish, maintaining the same quality in each ocarina is difficult, because the clay is a material that changes throughout the process of elaboration.

Glad I found this video. Was about to buy me that "Forest Whisperer" one but you've convinced me to check out Night by Noble's stuff and it looked a lot better. Can't wait till the ocarina arrives!

I bought the "forest whisper" from ocarina wind a few years back and the breath curve always seemed a bit of to me. Back then I just wanted to see if I would stick to practicing, before getting a more expensive instrument. Though I do like my ocarina and do not regret my decision, I totally agree that if you are serious about learning the ocarina it is better to get a good plastic one to start.

Why in gods name does everything online shopping today require a rabbit hole research for several weeks, to find out, which companies try to screw you up? Clothing, instruments, cameras, computer parts, electronic, heck even underwear! Everything is falling apart right now, even high prices don't offer quality anymore. It's like everything is going to hell...

My first ocarina was an OcarinaWind ceramic, "Ocean Waves" it had similar issues to the ones you tested. If I hadnt realized that my instrument just wasnt on par, I may have given up. However, thanks to your videos, I was able to purchase the night by noble and continue playing. While that ocarina may have not been the greatest quality, I was still able to learn on it and start up my passion for ocarina. It will still have a place in my heart as the starting line for a great ocarina journey! Thanks again for all your videos, and happy tooting!

Oh, I just *love* that song of storms is the test song that you use.
I don't know if it's cheesy, but I don't care. I love it.

After giving it some thought, Ocarina wind seems like it was supposed to be for decoration.

I saw your cheap OOT video a while back and from that I knew not to get a replica ocarina. I ended up buying one of these cheap ceramic ocarinas, and it was decent but had an awkward breathy sound and seemed flat.

Within a month of that I got a night by noble and love it

Just a clarification: "Night" IS an ocarina maker, but they don't make the plastic Night by Noble ocarina. As its name implies, the plastic Night by Noble is a Noble design, and the maker "Night" is virtually unrelated.

Edit: Fixed some wording

I am so shocked because I bought an Ocean Waves ocarina from Ocarina Wind, recommended by another professional ocarina player youtuber, and I absolutely love it. Maybe I lucked out but I am incredibly impressed with it.

I've got a few Ocarina Wind ocarinas just because they're a cheap way to fill in my collection. Your experience with the dragon tooth model fits my own, it's kinda in tune but very wonky to play. I have the Forest Whisper and Ocean Wave ones that are pretty okay. Almost as good as my STL ocarinas. They're basically my go to for when I want a ceramic with me but would worry about breaking them. Quality control is most likely random at best, which has been my experience with low cost Chinese made instruments on Amazon in general. I have an amazingly good soprano saxophone that I will be first to admit that I won the cheap instrument lottery on, but I also have a cheap tenor that kinda proves the soprano was a fluke.

I just got my Ocarina Wind ‘forest whisper’ in the mail today. I’m actually pretty happy with it I got one ‘used - like new’, ended up being like $23. I’m happy at that price. I had to put a flashlight to it to notice that ‘seam’ you were talking about, so maybe I got lucky with a good one. High notes seem to come pretty easily, but low notes seem to be pretty picky about how much breath they want. Everything plays well and in tune enough that if I can’t learn on this, I have no reason to get a more expensive one, but I think I’ll enjoy it. I mostly play stringed instruments, the only woodwind I played regularly before this is a penny whistle, but they are fairly diatonic in nature. This is much quieter and less shrill than a penny whistle, I’m pretty excited!

I got the ceramic Zelda one (10:57) for a present, and I had to drill almost all the holes larger to make it play in tune and match the key of C. It was rough and way too much work. I love my Night by Noble.

I remember back in 2018 buying an Ocarinawind Ocarina of time and being disheartened that I couldn't play right. It feels so uncomfortable holding it but I thought it was just how ocarinas are. I bought a proper 6 hole after that and was blown away by the difference in sound and quality. I've just gotten the Awef 12 hole for Christmas and my husband wanted me to test play it beforehand. I have to say it does sound much better and the thinner body feels so much better to hold.

I bought the forest wind as my first ocarina and i personally think its good, although im not a reliable source lol. It is very pretty though, and i think it would be a good beginning ocarina

Well I just found out this is where I got my first ocarina from and now I’m pissed! I thought that the sound was because I was a newbie, damnit.

(For context, the high notes are just as bad as in the video and the breath patterns are impossible to decipher)
