Should you buy an Intel Mac in 2020?

Apple's transition to custom Silicon begins at the end of this year, so should you avoid buying an Intel Mac until they complete it, or are Intel Macs still worth buying in 2020?

I recently just sold my old mid 2011 MBA 11” and bought a 2020 base MBP 13” with a heavy discount and I should be good for at least a couple years until I decide to trade for the ARM MBP in its second or third revision. Usually I avoid first generation products until any issues get ironed out.

It’s funny how people change 1000 dollar phones every year but when it comes to 1000 dollar computers, that’s not the case.

I already bought a MacBook Pro, I’m done with the “Wait until it comes out” 😂

Great Video! It’s always hard when we’re dealing with unknowns, and especially during an unprecedented transition, but I agree with your take. Wait as long as possible and you’ll be able to make a more informed decision.

One consideration about the "should I buy Intel or Apple Silicon": If you need Bootcamp for Windows 10, you have to stick with Intel.

Here i am still using a 2010 imac :) I upgraded it to an i5 put a 500gb SSD and put 16gbs of ram in it. Its running High Sierra and it's really fast i think ill keep it a few more years before I buy a newer one.

You should buy it only if it’s “buttery smooth”!

Since your basically the king of eBay macs, I would love a website (sponsorship) that shows how much is a good price for a second hand Mac (specs and Mac version)

Just upgraded my hdd to ssd on my 2013 27" Imac. It's good to go for a few more years. That and an ipad pro from 2018. I'll wait it out.

I just received my first Mac in the mail last week. I upgraded from the Surface Pro 6 to the base model 13" 2020 MacBook Pro. I feel confident that Apple will keep giving software updates to this machine but not too sure as that wasn't the case with the PowerPC to Intel transition.

2011 27" iMac user here. I use it every single day for work in IT. I know a lot of people love the latest and greatest stuff, but most people can probably get away with a much older and less powerful machine than they think they need.

If you’re in college, do not buy an ARM computer period. I have a Mac and use it for engineering classes. I have virtualization software that runs Windows engineering apps on macOS. It clearly won’t be compatible with ARM.

I would like to add, that it may be one of the last chances to have a macOS - Windows Macbook Pro. As a developer, I want both OS and this is one of the drawbacks of this transition.

I got a 2019 5k iMac three months ago brand new from the Apple website, I got the best configuration available. I didn’t know at that time that they would have big updates this year. But to be honest, the specs are so much more than what I need, so I’m happy with it, for video editing for college is more than enough and also a kickstart for my career.

I do prefer my laptop can run windows in Bootcamp. I bought my 27" iMac 6 years ago and bought the best I could get and I am still going to use it as long as it does what I need. It will run Catalina but I don't since I still have some 32 bit apps on it. It won't get the next Mac OS update to Big Sur. I am okay with that. I suspect my next iMac will be one of the next generation ones though that may be another 2 or 3 years away. I don't want one of the first of the next gen. Let them work the bugs out. I expect they will kick ass
