When an oil tank ran aground in Mauritius a few years ago, the citizens sacrificed their hair for this very purpose.

I remember in the mid 2000s, we had a local oil spill in my city and all of the barbershops and salons were bagging up the hair trimmings to contribute.

There are actually companies that educate the hairstylists with this and collect the hair to make those things. Should be implemented as a law.

Congratulations to that hairdresser. Now, hairdressers generally DO make people's lives better, just by being hairdressers ... but you really went off the dial, man, and made the whole world better. I think this has a connection to a project called Sustainable Salons. Hair salons collect their clippings and they get put into these booms instead of landfill. And in fact recycling or re-using is put in place for all the salon waste, from the foils to the shampoo bottles and pumps. Pet groomers can also sign up and pet clippings go to the oil spill booms too. My stylist can't stop raving about it!

Can I just note how that girl was genuinely intrigued with what she was saying? I've had those same, "WOW, that is genius thinking! How interesting!"

I'm a pet groomer and at one salon I worked at we would donate the clippings to be used in oil spills whenever there was a big one and they needed donations.

theyve started a new way of doing it without the plastics of nets and tights. They mat the hair into cubes and 'rugs' and they take any hair bleached or natural!!
