I'm gonna add to what you said... the autistic person themselves may have unrealistic expectations of themselves not just their support system. I'm an engineer... what's wrong with me that i can't manage to remember to eat/ wash etc?
Step one is to forgive yourself then accept yourself then give yourself permission to take the shortcuts, the time or the help you need to get back to coping.

I've been experiencing burnout for at least 12 years. I thought it was teacher burnout until I was diagnosed as autistic 2 years ago at age 69. Aside from my distant family and a very few friends, I've had none of the support I needed: mostly just ridicule from employers, colleagues, and students. I suppose that's why I also have PTSD.

Being undiagnosed is really terrible, when I wasn't diagnosed in college and experienced autistic burnout, I thought it was depression. Many of the same mental health tips work for both, but it would've helped me a lot more to really know what I had.

This is a wonderful explanation! Unfortunately, I’ve been surviving in burnout for years. Any tips when your situation is not going to change?

I love the explanation because I’m an engineer that didn’t experience burnout neither got diagnosed until the end of the bachelors degree

I have this issue, but several doctors have already ruled out autistic spectrum issues. Perhaps I experience this phenomenon due to other health issues I have. I've always had to heavily sacrifice activities in my life in order to have success in other activities in my life, and that has included self-care activities in the past.

btdt... As an entrepreneur I do manage a lot. But often enough I'm not able to cook a meal or just put some cheese on a slice of bread... Some salt sticks or pretzels and a bottle of water on my nightstand saved me more than once 😅

combine Autistic burnout with CPTSD from Narcissistic Abuse and you get the decade of burnout I'm nearing the end of...

I’ve been in this for a few years I think

Great job bringing awareness to this issue. I would also respectfully suggest that we try to avoid overusing the "engineering" trope. I think it's important to use examples that expand our understanding of what autism can look like.

You give very informative information about autism. But not really really the reasons why autistic people develop so different and what inspires them to register stuff so different fro typical people.
