Thanks for this--I didn't realize you had to hold the button down I was just pressing it once when it was next to the socket/plug (I was getting ready to return it; it's so cheap it doesn't even come with instructions lol).

It works i have the same model but the main point is reliability issues. Maybe using it few time is ok but for using it often its junk.
Its your life on the line. Klein standard model which is better then this one and more reliable and is only $16. Why cheap out and get harbor freight one.. i buy a lot of harbor freight items but not stuff like these.

I do not like to use this device. When placed near a pair of neutral and hot that half inch apart it cannot tell which one is hot which one is neutral. Hot wire and neutral wire must be far apart to tell.

observation: OMG H.F. has an Asian one? I own a sign shop and actually changed fluorescent lamps in the canopy sign at our local H.F. I used a GB tester. I'm now on a Fluke The 1a or whatever it's called.. My shop will not use Chinese stuff even on a H.F. sign. Let the O.P. hand down H.F. tools when he dies.
