I did it and I didn’t become a deer I just saw my self as a deer for half a second and then respawned

I'm irritated because my first attempt at this failed. Basically it showed the scene where I trip out for a sec, then I saw a split second blink of a deer. THEN I got teleported away from the investigate site, was still a human, and when I went to investigate again, it had used 5 of the herb anyway and now I didn't have enough..

I tried it twice and i don't get the animation and i turned into the buck for a second but it kicked me right back out both times. Not sure whats going on. Any suggestions?

Done all the steps and ate the plant, spawned in as a deer for a millisecond then it respawned me as my character, why does this happen?
