GTA IV had such a unique vibe compared to all of the other games. Later 2000s had a lot of games trying to chase the gritty, edgy, dark and dreary vibe. GTA IV wasn't too different in this regard. Lot of games went overboard with it, but IV really nailed it. Liberty City turned out to be a cruel place for our immigrant protagonist that was already trying to escape that life. What was supposed to be a fish-out-of-water tale was just more of the same violent world that Niko was already used to. He fit right into America and the American Dream. That is GTA IV.

This is probably the most atmospheric loading screen ever made. I always thought of it more like the opening of a tv show opening like the Sopranos than a 'loading screen'. It COMPLETELY immerses you in the grimy world it's set in.

Even if instant-loading is an option, I actually think R* should have it as an option to keep intro screens like this if they have such an amazing soundtrack.

POV: It's 2008 and you've just got the game in the week of release and you're playing it in the living room and are astounded on how realistic it all looks and how it's the best game ever made.

Now it's 2022-2023, and it is *still* one of the best games rockstar has ever made . . .

I always preferred the console loading screens, mainly because they were representative of the world around the game, has a sense of mystery, but it's not out of place, even without context. It sets the tone very well for the game, and the soundtrack is just perfection

Back in the GTA 4 days I had my iPhone set for my alarm as the intro theme. To this day I keep transferring everything and it is still my alarm to wake up because it’s so epic.
