Reasons I decided to build Ben (and probably other defenders in the future):
- Dodge is cringe, parry is cool. Parry is a limited resource to everyone else but defenders (or just Ben).
- Which is especially useful against enemies who attack a lot (the brutes for example).
- The game always tries to fuck me over with def stats and substats. Ben loves them however. I completed Ben's build within a day while others take weeks to get the right disks.

In disputed Shiyu all bosses are huge statsticks, they are insanely tanky, hit as hard and fast as an isekai truck. So I brought my own statstick to the fight. He's tanky, has iframe on command and can shield other agents. He is only lv35 with a lv20 signature engine but he works.
That being said bosses that take 1 year to kill aren't cool either.

Every time someone slanders my boy Ben it just tells me they don't know sh*t about f*ck. Ben has some of the highest damage spikes in the entire game and then he just casually passes off more damage to the rest of the squad. He isn't an on field unit, he's meant to swap in, hit a parry dps spike and pass off the shield and buff. He gets to be immensely more valuable when you get comfortable swapping during attack animations as Ben will finish his queued up animation while other characters swap in and overlap damage with him.

I hope he gets the quick assist treatment Seth gets, letting him quick swap backwards

I keep hearing “Ben does no damage” and that is just incorrect. If you build him correctly he’s hanging with the DPS for damage. Ben just doesn’t swing as fast as an actual DPS character, so he’s quality over quantity. Set him up to do big damage within a few button presses and he DELETES enemies

Ben's damage is actually pretty good for what you want out of him. I'm not sure if the defensive assist uses the guaranteed crit from his w-engine but having a guaranteed crit lets you stack crit damage and do big damage if you get to parry with his ex special, or even his normal special. In my experience a parry from his EX special does about as much as a S11 normal attack chain. He's also the only character who reliably cancels enemy attack chains which is really cool against certain enemies like Thanatos or the big rock guy (don't remember his name).

Ben with Lucy has great synergy, because the boars inherit Lucy's crit rate and damage. Ben buffs her crit rate, making her boars deal more.

Defenders are in general just support with focus on dodge counter/parry IMO.
But we will see if it goes beyond that.

Ben was a lifesaver in the new Shiyu node. The strategy for those is more of a battle of attrition since you can easily get two shot and the defense class providing shields allows you to sometimes survive an extra hit. The thing with defense class is you have to think about the benefit you're getting besides the shields. Ben is quite valuable for Soldier 11 just for providing the increased crit rate.

the fact that some tier lists just lump Ben as "support" says a lot about how defenders are viewed at the moment.
been loving the potential of the Defender class (now and in the future) since realizing Ben's kit (hence my similar excitement for Ceasar)

this is action combat game, you could say most dont like playing a slow walking char or low damage char.

My only issue with defense characters is that they're in a quasi identity crisis. The only thing they do is fill the role of support, stun or attacker or kind of a mix of those. I wish they straight up just increased survivability in all situations without any weird requirements, like Ben+Koleda. I would use Ben all the time if he did this for all characters.

Though on a more serious note, Defenders might end up filling a more "Jack of all trades" role since the others are so specialised especially if most future defenders will have the reverse quick swap Seth has. I can't see Ceaser being that good unless she does Support/Stun better than the dedicated S rank supporters/stunners or literally makes teams immortal by existing in them.

I cannot express enough how obnoxious it is with ppl having this weird mindset that every character has to be a dps essential and do crazy amounts of dmg, if they cant, the character is trash, it was esp worst in genshin and it still present in star rail, its such a moronic mindset that i do not understand, god forbid a SUPPORT character cant do as much dmg as a DPS can, theyre trash apparently, hell there will be actual ppl who shit talk a healer just cause they cant do as much dmg as a dps can, maybe im the crazy one, but that always seems so stupid to me

Timers on ranks/rewards is the biggest problem and why communities push for max dps setups. Its why people say defender/tanks suck. Remove the timer and the problem goes away. Wouldn't have the push for max damage if you weren't pushed into beating the stages in 2minutes. Or trying to S-rank Shinyu nodes in 5min with massive boated hp pools. Remove timers and you remove the problem.

I'm looking forward to Ceaser cause sword and board is my jam. I just hope she's more damage oriented. Ben right now is in my Anton/Grace team cause no Rina and its a bit painful as he really doesn't contribute enough despite being fun to just block everything in the world.

Ben not only provide daze but CROWDING by pressing skill twice, which is very helpful and not alot of people take it into consideration

I use a Nekomata Ben Lucy team

I build him with 6th disc Impact and Full Defense

I soloed the new SD with ben lol he trivializes anything difficult in HZ and survivalist related with the amount of iframes he gets
