here in brazil we have a similar case with a goalkeeper called "muralha".
he was a good goalkeeper and defended one of the biggest clubs in the country, Flamengo, but he started to fail and ended up becoming a meme. when he went to the field, you could see the pressure he felt with the whole crowd cursing him.
later he was released from the club and never managed to establish himself in his career again.

Maguire is a prime example that shows how closely linked mentality and performance are. He should definitely see someone, a professional, so they can tech him some exercises he can do to keep his mind focused and regain some confidence. Mindfulness, DBT, and other exercises could really help him. I watched a number of memes and found it funny but could never get my head around him having had such a high transfer fee. Now, I feel bad for him thanks to this video. I really hope he recovers. It would help if a group of United or UK fans gave him some support but I doubt that'll happen
