Supaman - Know better do better

Getting creative with some flute loops, raps, turntablism and some fancy war dancing.
Cinematography - Samuel Jerome Jay

I was interviewed today. I told the guy “I never was too much of an activist type artist. But the more I traveled and performed I realized the system pushes a different narrative for native people in this country and growing up on the Rez were constantly being assimilated. So I felt as an indigenous artist it became a responsibility to at least share some truths that I knew, even though I wasn’t a historian or highly educated on certain topics. Nor do I have certain rights that come from our Apsaálooke culture. Im not obligated to teach anything or share holy things on the internet. Some things are better left within our own communities and families. So what you see here is very contemporary, the dance, the musical infusion. I’m always learning and unlearning things everyday. If you carry any wisdom that has been handed down directly from your family, your clans, your tribes. You carry a legacy that is priceless. Every breath you take is in defiance to a system that wanted you gone! You are a blessing to the world! They say we’re not all feathers, drums and flutes. Sometimes we’re hip hop artists, lawyers, doctors, or teachers in regular clothes. Sometimes we’re both! What do I know. 🔥🔥🔥 new album MEDICINE BUNDLE out now!!

You can get the song here.

Lyrics

Peace to all my people around the world, across the block/
(Apsáalooke language) "My name is "Good Fortune on Mother Earth"
reporting live from the universe/ it's the First Nations emcee/
you could do the search/who's been through the worse/surviving genocide/fighting for a better life/they try to set aside/the true history/and keep us mystical/ they say they founded this country on biblical principals?/ It's so cynical/but I'm an analyst/ it's murderous/they refer to us as merciless/ indian savages/ now that's written in the declaration of independence, that's no kidding/hey/open up your heart and let love lead the way/light your path with the words that I speak today/let the lessons flow/arrive and bless ya soul/systemic racism/alive, intentional/ know better do better is the motto/ it's that good medicine, a hard pill to swallow

I am as white as they come! They bread me out before birth! Now, I have no clue any of my roots back before to my great-grandmother, and since my grandmother never registered with the tribe I am now Amongst the Scattered. 😢

This calls to me as my ancestors do! Nice work I love it!

The realest Native American hip hop, this was something that needed to be produced so people can see. That wasn't just dope, it was spiritual.

Great lyrics, and anyone that believes our land was "founded" and not "stolen" from under the feet of Native Americans just has no brain to think with.

Supaman, this is dope. I dig the beat, the clothing, and dancing. Can't wait to listen to more. Peace to you. ♥
