Vast Unveils Haven-2: Our Proposed Successor to the International Space Station (ISS)

Today at IAC 2024, Vast introduced Haven-2, our proposed successor to the International Space Station (ISS). The first module will be fully operational by 2028, ensuring an overlap of operational space stations before the ISS retires in 2030. This near-term timeline is made possible by leveraging Vast's significant private investment in the design, build, launch, and operation of Haven-1. When completed in 2032, Haven-2 is designed to surpass the ISS in volume, research facilities, and cost efficiency.

Very logical design made to be built fast and simple with minimal cost. Excellent

Really impressed with the ambition y'all have, and your iterative testing of space stations. I hope Haven 1 helps nurture the market for potential space station customers. That'll be the main thing that determines whether commercial stations succeed.

Oh wow, that is FRAKING Awesome! Lets GO VAST, that is awesome....

Very elegant design. They are on the right path to win this race without relying on NASA. The former SpaceX engineers know how to get this done.

Exciting stuff! Really looking forward to Vast hopefully building large ring stations to allow artificial gravity!! Our space stations have been around for decades now and we need to take that next evolutionary step

That connector module was what I was waiting for. Now I can see your plan. It looks great, keep pushing. By the time Starship is ready to take you up there I hope you’ll be ready to go.

Genuinely incredible, I was shocked (in a very good way) when I saw the four modules reconfigure and dock to the core, didn’t expect that, but it’s so cool! I’m now fully confident VAST will have HAVEN-1 in orbit, operational before any other company can get their station up. Hell, VAST may even have HAVEN-2 up before many others can get a good foothold. Keep going guys, y’all are incredible!

Looks very logical and workable. But I'm curious about the emergency evacuation system.
There are too few docking ports in the cascade stacking of Haven-1s. Only 4 people can stay in that configuration.
What are your plans for the future?

Beautiful! Can't wait for this to be in orbit!

As I have told Space Kate from her Interview about VAST. Would love to see Haven-3 add inflatable tube, then making entire station spin giving the tube astros 1G and a very large volume to build a large community in.

Impressive Vast, I wish you success in the progress of replacing international space station in the near future.

I believe you guys can achieve it! I would love to live in a place like that in space!

Simple, modular, design in contrast to the rather piecemeal nature of the ISS. Tragically, we could have done this during the 1980's if we hadn't retired the Saturn 1B and V rockets in favor of the space shuttles.

I love the concept and its simplicity.

Very impressive ! Though I have seen plenty of shiny renders from a lot of companies already. Good luck!

Honestly, if they're actually making progress on this, then this is more, than awesome

Very interesting design, if i do say so myself. Suggestion 1: You could add anywhere from 2 to 4 more Haven-2 modules to the top and the bottom of the Haven-2 core module. Suggestion 2: My personal advice, you could start with something similar with Vast Haven-1 modules early on. For instance, create a Haven-1 core, and attach anywhere from 4 (or up to 6) Haven-1 modules to that core, then build 4 to 6 (at least, depending on demand) of those Haven-1 stations. (Theoretically, you could create Haven-1 stations similar to the ones in this video, just on a smaller scale.) Once you start to build stations with the Haven-2 modules, and get close to the end of the Haven-2 station design, like in this video, theoretically, you could add each of the 4 to 6 Haven-1 stations (at least, the ones with 4 Haven-1 modules) in between each of the Haven-2 modules on every spoke (including the ones i mentioned in the first suggestion) adding up to 24 ! Haven-1 modules, adding even more space (no pun intended) to this design.

It was nice of them to name a space station after me.
