Want to meet a bunch of random strangers everywhere you go? Start riding around on a neon green electric bicycle that looks like nothing this world has seen before, something tossed out of a passing UFO that some New Zealand shepherd found glowing slightly as it rested in the middle of a smoking crater. This $3,595 electric bicycle with a 15mph top speed and six mile range does come from New Zealand, but the YikeBike is very much a product of human ingenuity, or so creator Grant Ryan claims, but that doesn't stop it from giving us a riding experience that is nothing short of other-worldly. Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily equate to a entirely perfect experience.

I own a Segway and love it. I think I'd also love the Yike Bike for the portability aspect. Also, while on my Segway, if I encounter unfavorable conditions, I'm kinda stuck. With a Yike Bike, I'd just fold it and walk until favorable conditions resumed. I'd love both.

Much cheaper electric bikes have 15 or 20 mile ranges.
Gas powered bicycle kits can be slapped together on a Saturday and get 100 to 150 miles to a gallon. those cost $200 + an old bicycle.
And those you can pedal if you run out of juice or gas.

@yikebike Nope, and theirs no point to that. why would you want to fold them? They are meant to be used, not folded and carried away...for 4 grand i would expect someone to use this everyday and not fold it and just walk away.

Looks unique... but uncomfortable and too expensive. Sounds like a marketing disaster.

SO ... this machine, pretty awesome... but how "practical" is the device when it's $3500. Although it looks pretty awesome and would be awesome in NYC.

@yikebike you expect people to pay 4 grand on this while also paying for a car and train? whats the point of this then? a toy? also why would be taking this upstairs or be putting this under your desk? just lock it up to a tree outside.
